1991 Z28 Rear Window Pull-Down Unit Issues
Hey,
Well today for some reason my rear window would not close properly. I could hear the pull-down unit working, but the window was not being pulled down/sealed. So I tried the pull-down unit and it seemed to be too loose. I know this could not be good, so I removed the trim panel and out falls three phillip head screws and some clear plastic. After looking at it closer, it seems that the bottom of the pull-down unit, where the piston is, is attached to it's frame by some clear plastic piece and these three screws. Well that clear plastic broke off and now my rear window will not close down/seal. Anybody else ever have this happen? The unit itself works fine, but now that it can not brace itself against its frame, the piston doesn't move the rollers up or down and so it never locks the window down. Any ideas on how to fix this (I know replace the unit is one - BTW anybody know where I can find one of these? I called a few places and no one has it). Has anybody rigged anything up?
Thanks,
va1991z28

Lon,
Is this the item:
http://www.top-downsolutions.com/pro...0f8bf1f8342614
It's a 1991 and I found 3 phillip head screws, looks like one screw on the bottom and two at the top.
Thanks

Re: 1991 Z28 Rear Window Pull-Down Unit Issues
AmorgetRS,
I just looked at it again and the frame is metal. I don't see any brownish plastic as part of the frame. The parts that broke are clear plastic. From what I see, it looks like two screws attached the clear plastic to the metal frame across from want looks like a relay and a third screw, on the same side but much lower, almost at the bottom.
Thanks,
VA1991Z28

Re: 1991 Z28 Rear Window Pull-Down Unit Issues
AmorgetRS, thanks for pointing me to Lon at TopDownSolutions.com. Lon had everything I needed and got me my parts in a very timely fashion.
Lon, thanks for the help over the phone and for getting me my parts quickly. I should have listened to you and ordered the Nylon Guides at the same time. They looked ok until I took the entire unit apart and my old guides were cracked and fell apart in my hand into a bunch of pieces.
Thanks again,
