Repaired lots,restored lots, modified alittle
This project took about a year and a half, probably 4000 hours total and counting, I wasn't satisfied with the hood so it'll be another week, pending decent weather. Had got alot of my info from here, alot of parts from ebay, 4 parts cars and alot of searching the country. Total cost is unknown, last count was $18,000 I stopped saving receipts lol. I am a jounryman auto tech, but also did all the body work myself. I have played with putty before but never to this extent, I really loved doing this project, almost as much as I do driving it, but probably will never do another one to this extent. Any questions don't hesitate to ask, I am here to help as I was help.

It started out as a wreck at a local wreckers, was rough but complete. Paid 650 can for it, was a 2.8 5sp 2.94 limited slip. I found a parts car at another wrecker, was basically a rolling chassis, but was a V8 car. took all the black interior that was left in it, the speedo cluster the doors and frt fenders, sold the rest for scrap. Bought a 77 chev 1/2 ton for 600 pulled the 350 4bolt main, scrapped the truck, I wanted speed but also fuel mileage, so I just put on 2.02 heads and a RV cam and rest was stock, except for the edlebrock intake and 650cfm carb. Bought new headers and March pulleys kept electric cooling fan, kept electric fuel pump in tank and connected a holley reg for 170 the flywheel was a bitch ended up doing a global search and found one in eastern canada, was a rip off totalled 550 by the time I had it in my hands. Bought yet another firebird that was rough but had an org. v8 5sp, took the tranny bought a clutch disk from a 85 v6 firebird(was the biggest dia. I could find w/v6 splines) put my trans in parts car and sold it at an auction. Found a diff with 3.23 posi w/rear disks at a wrecker for 200, add another 500 to overhaul both trans and diff. nothing really to say about the body work other than 1000 on sand paper and sore arms. The nose I got from Edm. Alta. It is fiberglass, not dureflex. It never sat against the car like it is suppose to so I fiberglassed it solid to the body ( which I like that look better) Wheels are 18" RTX Tires are 245/45R18 another 2000 interior parts were the hardest to find used in good condition, bought alot of new parts off ebay, seats are out of a eagle talon, everything is new Shocks,struts,rotors,pads,e-cables bearings etc. Shes basically a brand new car. Sterio is a cd/dvd 3" screen 2x 75w jvc in dash, 2x 250w 6x9 in sail panels with 500w amp 2x 12" subs in back with 1000w amp.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
Thanks, to be honest I did this because it was all I could find at the time that looked doable, I am glad I did it but these cars are really hard to find parts for, like I would love to get rear louvers but can't find anything within 1000km.

don't know if they are still in business or enough to recommend them one way or the other but they have louvers listed. http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/firebird8292.html
I've looked at that nose before, but there is something I don't like. It looks like a duraflex bumper if so ateast it will not be splintered the first time you scrub it.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
It is fiberglass, I got it from FX-design out of Edmonton Alberta, I prefered this over duraflex, at least it would be easier to repair splintered fiberglass than cracked or broken plastic. Not that it can't be done But something I couldn't do myself.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
Looks good but i think it has more ground clearance on the front than my offroad truck.
I really like the color and overall bodykit but the ground clearance is kind of extreme.

looks great! how hard was it mounting that front bumper? Any special mods? I've had my eye on the bumper for a while but never knew how it would look like actually installed and it looks great. I would probably blackout everything though...

Looks great. But please, if that is one of those foam filtered aircleaners, get rid of it! Those things are junk, and will catch fire and melt into your carb/intake on the first backfire.

Your bird looks great. Is there a site I can find that front bumper at? I agrre about the front looking high though. You should look onto lowering the front to atleast as low as the rear is.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
The instructions were to just overlap the original fender and mount inside wheel well and of course on the front of the fender, I could not get it to look straight without getting ripples along the top (which is mid front fender) so I ended up fiberglassing on, so it is suppose to be an easy install but it was a bitch, but I love the look so for me it was worth the extra time and labour.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
I found the bumper in Edmonton Alberta, add was is the auto trader here in canada, this one is fiberglass, alot of them are plastic or duraflex, maybe the duraflex ones fit tighter to the car than fiberglass, Id like to know how it fit if thats what you put on.

2-3 hours in the am before work an hr at lunch and after supper till the wee hours. The main push was my garage isnt big enough to have dead weight sitting in it, so I pushed to get it a rolling chassis, then pushed to get it running, so I didnt have to push it in and out, then just got excited to drive it lol, It was alot of fun, but I will not do another till I get a bigger garage so I can take my time.

No..... Parts very very hard to find. I had bought 3 parts cars, two from wreckers and one was a daily driver, I swapped good parts for my old ones and sold it an auction for 2/3's what I paid for it, that was my best deal. Alot were new parts off e-bay.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
Be interesting with some 91 GTA Ground effects. Looks awsome. The work is well done.
THis is not a shot just opinion: I think the front looks a little heavy compared to the rest of the car. Not weight wise, just styling impact. Need some balance for the rest of the car. Nose could come down a little to. I would try .75 coil cut.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
the nose will come down when I change rims....as it is right now I have just enough clearance to not rub in a hard turn....I also think with 10" rubber on the back should balance the look alittle.

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
What offset did you go with? And what width are the rims? I was looking at something similar to those, but I wanted them to sit out a bit further out... more even with the edge of the fender

Re: Repaired lots, restored lots, modified alittle
Sorry cant rememeber exactly, rims were not bought for this car, I got a deal on them and made them fit....they are a very low offset and had to get an 1 1/4" spacer/adapter to fit 4.75 lugs, width is 8.5. I think I am going to try a lower profile tire on the front and chop some spring height off to bring the nose down, and see what it looks like 1st before I try replacing them all together, I like the look but not the fit right now.
