I'm thinking about putting 89 180sx headlights (the aftermarket ones that don't pop up..) on my Firebird.
I just wanted opinions and to see if anyone had tried this.

I beleive you are refering to the silvia or sileighty headlights. My buddy has a bad *** coupe with a rb20 skyline motor. I seriously doubt you could make it work though. Theres a member here by the name of redraif, she did a pretty cool non flip up mod on her bird. Check her out.

but my whole point is i want to do it like the link i listed. not like raif, eventho that is a sweet mod.. i wanted to know if anyone tried it or if they would fit. i respect peoples opinions but nobody answered my question

There is a reason nobody is answering your question, it won't look good, so nobody has done it.

One of the coolest things about the birds is the pop up headlights.

Yeah, but if you could get it to just pop up a little and have 2 projectors in it it would still be cool.

I'd like to keep the pop ups (thats what the 'birds are all about, but have them only pop up about halfway. And use shorter, rectangular lights, not round ones.

Personally I like the pop ups... however to answer your question.

How good are you with fiber glass?
Go to a hobby store and get the foam used for flower arrangments.
Take your headlight assembly out of your car.

I suggest marking the bolts and brakets incase you want to go back to orginal.

Tape off your paint to protect.

Get a drywall rasp and some files and knifes.

Decide on the lights you would like to run and buy some.

Go to work making it like you want to.

Make a mold from your prototype

Cast your part in fiber glass, don't forget to account for mounting it.

OR you can start with the piece you linked to trim it down and fill in with fiberglass. but Since the plastic that is made out of and the fiberglass will srink at different rates I would use that to make a mold and cast it fully out of fiberglass.

imo those headights on your bird would look like a frog....not a great look, but original for sure, try it out and show us how it looks, we may all be wrong, it may look sick

What's so cool about popup headlights? They completely destroy the lines of the car when they're up. They're totally exposed when they're up unlike the camaro ones which are tucked under the hood, and the motors wear out, causing you to have to replace a fairly expensive part every 5 years or so. Oh, and typically pop up lights are a lot smaller on any car.

Most of the time the light are up its dark outside and you cant see the lines of the car anyway.

I have original motors on my headlights, no issues at all.

I was also playing with the idea of a fixed headlight on my car, but it always looks weird, probably because its not something that people are used to seeing. Those lights you listed are only 75 bux or so. If you have the money why not give it a shot and see what happens?

Only if you can't figure out how to replace that $2 nylon gear in the motor. That's what goes out on them.
