Paint matching and HF spray gun
I recently replaced my front bumper and would like to paint it to match the rest of the car. I called the auto body guy who did the car and he used Dupont black # 99. I read on here the Dupont is not good. Why?
Also, does any other maker, i.e. ppg, make a black that matches the Dupont #99? Don't want to totally different shades of black.
Also, I just want to paint and clear the bumper. Can I use the HF guns? I read that this is not the choice of guns, but I'm not going into the business...just would like to save the money from going to the body shop. Any Harbor Freight guns decent for the base coat and clear?
Lastly, what clear would you recommend?
Thanks.

never had a bad experience with dupont paints, I really like them. and I will never own a HF gun but it should work for what your doing. my first gun was a husky gravity fed HVLP gun, costed me 50 bucks at home depot. I'd recommend this gun, it was great to me.

I use the HF HVLP gun. I got it on sale for $9.99. If you know how to "tune" the gun, use the right needle, get the mixture right, and know how to spray it works great.
Sorry, I don't have any input on the DuPont paint, I use implement paint.

heres how you match black
first put like a cup of black in then here is the hard part
add some more black
reduce it and put it in the gun

Thank you everyone. I appreciate it all the inputs. So Dupont is not a bad paint. I didn't think so, but I was searching last night and it seemed alot of folks do not like Dupont.
Home Depot HVLP gun? Really? Worked well? I had their HVLP gun in my hand on Sat.
Fyrechn - how do you tune a gun? Like I mentioned..this is the first attempt for me. If I go to HF will they have the tuning products? How did you mix, 2:1 ratio? And did you thin it with Mineral Spirits? Also, when painting clears it's best to use a smaller nozzle, like 1.3MM? Do they sell seperate nozzles?

the home depot one came with a 1.4mm tip, this is good for basecoats and clears and if you know how to clean it well you can even get away with primer.

Tmic - went on your car domain...is that the home depot gun in the photos? Or was the gun used on the pics of the body parts in the body shop?
