25th Anniversary Stripes

Hey guys I am getting my car repainted by a buddy of mine at his shop and I wanted to know if any of you know where I can get replacement stripes for my car. I noticed that they are stickered on instead of painted on. My buddy also offered to paint the stripes on exactly the way they are instead of using the stickers, is that a good idea? What would you guys recomend or can I even get replacement stripes for my car? Here is waht my car looks like now not that you guys dont know what the stripes look like.

Any help is appreciated greatly...

-Darren

those stripes are only stickers?? i thought they were painted on there?? well thats crap. im gonna paint my 88 blue with white stripes even though its not a 25th anniversary. but wow cant believe theyre only stickers. screw that, get them painted on there. get a nice outline around them to if you can. what color you plan on going with? the white and orange or somethin else?

Yes....."stickers", but your normal thick stuff you'd go out & buy.

The factory stuff is a REALLY thin "super" material.

Hawk's has them. Others do too, but they were the first place I looked at online.

Yep stickers I know I orginally thought they were painted on too? So do you think painting them on would be a better route?

Thanks, I'll look into that! Do you think painting them on would be better then trying to replace the stickers? I am looking for opinions so I can get a better idea of what to do...

Well...I'm a bit biased towards vinyl ("stickers") since that's what I've done for years. Good thing about "stickers" is that...In a few years, if you don't want them anymore? Take them off & buff your paint. If there is very little fading of the exposed paint, you should be able to blend them good, with zero visible differences.

I painted my 92 years ago (before I was doing vinyl) ad later kinda wished I had just used "stickers".

I hate that term "sticker" (sounds derogitive) , but people understand that term....

I forgot to mention I am going with the same paint job white with the red stripes, I would like to change it but the interior is red and any other color stripes would look wrong.

Yea I know the sticker term doesnt sound the best but your right everyone understands it. Painting them on looks to be cheaper actually to tho, Hawks wanted just over $200 for that heritage package...I am going to look on a few other sites, do you think a local dealer could order them?

Not sure if they are discontinued from GM or not.....

But any decent sign shop could make some for you. Thicker material, but still good stuff & less delicate to work with....and cheaper!

I made some for my wife's 90 Camaro years ago And SHE even did a good majority of the work HERSELF. She always insisted on working on her own car, when she could.

Yea I am going to look around see what I can find, but my friend offered to start doing the sanding and prep work this weekend so I need to move fast. Theres a couple sign shops around here I did not think about them so I'll look into that too!

Re: 25th Anniversary Stripes

like i said, i would like to paint them on, but thats my opinion. if you get the stickers you should see how thick they are. if theyre to thick then people might get a really close look and see its just a sticker and might think its kinda tacky or "not complete" i think it looks like a cheeper hack job. but thats just MY opinion. i can see lots of pros and cons with this, but after youve had your car for this long and still like the stripes i would just get them painted on. your choice! just my .02

i personally would paint them because then you get the nice glossy shine to them. And it looks great. But to each their own. -Matt

Re: 25th Anniversary Stripes

Yea after looking into it more and calling a few sign shops around the area I am thinking about just having them painted on. I am going to talk to my buddy and see how hard it will be for him to paint them and as long as he feels confident that he can then thats the route I think I am going to take. Thanks for all your input guys!
