Question about Iroc Louvers, headlight buckets, and ......

Ok. So I am trying to fix up my 87 Iroc.. I was looking at the hood louvers, the headlight buckets, and the grille.. now i know the original/factory was that flat black type of look.. just wondering if anyone has or has seen the louvers, headlight buckets, and grille painted a gloss black.. i am trying to picture what it would look like.. i think it would look pretty good but not sure.. the previous owner of my iroc had the buckets painted to match the rest of the car so its all yellow right now.. so not sure if i could even get the buckets back to that factory black.. thanks for any input..

I debated this same question, I just had my car painted and had the louvers, grill ,door handles and metal trim around rear window done in gloss black. I was very surprized on how GREAT it looks................

I had mine repainted, I didn't even realize the headlight buckets weren't originally gloss till after I had mine done. They look great gloss in my opinion, I was bummed because I wanted the paint to be original, but I'm happy with the way it turned out. I don't have the louvers, but I can't imagine them looking bad gloss. I had got a new grille and read somewhere that someone just sprayed more clear over it to make it more durable, sure made it look glossy. I think the gloss looks nice overall, makes the car look less plastic.

When I had my car painted I did mine in satin black, looks great! Opinoins will vary though. Do what you want with them. You can always scuff them and re shoot! No harm!

Re: Question about Iroc Louvers, headlight buckets, and ......

I'd say this one is up to owner preference, personally though i always thought the glossed look was too soft for these cars. having satin or flat gives them more character.

it's not an Iroc, but check out the "red and black third gens" thread for pics of compuwiz's RS. best looking glossed grill/bucket car i've ever seen IMO.

as a side note, when i had mine painted a few years ago they accidentally cleared over the whole car after spraying the flat black (tech school paint job ha). It confirmed my belief that gloss just doesn't look right, on my car anyway. They resprayed them back to flat the next day. But again, its really up to your individual preference.
