I made a mistake.. Urethane primer with no hardener.. oops

I was priming my car yesterday, and I grabbed what I thought was the can I used yesterday out of the cabinet... I sprayed a portion of my hood, and half of my door.. Anyway, I went back to the table where I mixed it, and saw that the Urethane had been covered over..

The guy at Cross Canada said that it shouldn't have dried, but it did.. He suggested that I go get new Urethane Primer, and the catalyst and spray it over everything I had primed. Is this a good Idea?

Well, The guy at Cross Canada said it's perfectly fine if I use Urethane Primer with the catalyst on top of the stuff I primed yesterday.. I might as well do the whole car while I'm at it, it atleast allows me to drive it around for the safety and E-test..

Are you sure you didnt use a 1k ready to spray primer? There are some primers that do not need a seperate catalyst. They can be reduced, but over reduced and they become a sealer. Whats the label on your can say?

I made the mistake once of not adding catalyst to my clear.
After I laid a nice coat on and walked away to let it flash before the next coat,I noticed on my mixing table was the catalyst still in the cup!
I immediately grabbed the can of clear added the catalyst + a little extra and ran back to the car and laid another coat on quickly!
So,if you went a couple days on the primer and its now dry just sand it back down and try again.I don't think the primer will be as forgiving after paint is applied.

no do not put anything on top of that, wipe it down and off with laquer thinner or block sand it all off so you dont make waves in the panel with a da, but you have to get all of it off one way or another.....otherwise done even bother paintin the car....and i paint for a livin if you needed cridentials about my advice.

I know you're thinking what I'm thinking right Charged; since its a 2k, and not a ready to spray primer like the cheap ppg omni deal, I'd sand it back or wipe it down because without that catalyst he's taking a big chance that the paint wont adhere, and even if it looks like it has even after he gets to the clear coat stage, he could get some significant lifting later on down the road. That would be a shame.

yes, you're thinking the same thing as charged350 and myself.
If the guy had gotten to it while the primer was still fresh and wet,he might have had a chance at the method I previously posted about my clearcoat mishap(however still risky) for a primer. My method worked out for the clear in case anyone is scratching their had and saying(are you kidding me?)
I had some pretty bad runs but after fully curing and giving the car a few hours of a sunshine bath, the runs all wetsanded out and car buffed out nicely.
