Re: Hoods

I think I am the only one who does not like cowl hoods. I think the factory ones are the best. In this order, best to worst:

1.) IROC hood (sorry I am biased)
2.) 90-92 Z hood with blisters
3.) 82-84 Z hood with the dimples
4.) flat hood
5.) No hood
6.) plywood hood
7.) cardboard hood
8.) Cowl hood
9.) WS6 hood on third gen Camaro
10.) turbo IROC/cowl hood with side vents

Re: Hoods

if i hadnt beat up my car i wouldve stuck with my 82-84 z hood with the split scoop imo they are the best lookin hood for these cars but it was the longest for delivery 82-84 z hood=2months, 2 inch cowl=1month,4 inch cowl=1week and i was in a rush to get my car on the road but now i really love the cowl so i have no regrets lol

Re: Hoods

At least with camaro's some aftermarket hoods look ok... Firebirds dont look good with any aftermarket hood. Now, the 70.5 camaro looks great with that hood!!!

Well thats why my 86 had the hood off. It wouldnt fit under it I bought a 3" hood for it and didnt like it sold the hood and left it like that for 4 months then I sold the car. I drove it daily rain and all.

The 70 Went 10.50 off juice 9.70 on juice and is way faster now. I got a lil boost on her

Re: Hoods

I'm sorry, but I think theres something morally wrong with putting a WS6 style hood on a 3rd gen. The only lines on the car are purposeful, clean sharp edges. Thats what makes it such a good looking design, even still today. putting an exaggerated, swoopy, bulging inlet hood like that just plain does not fit the style of the car. almost as bad as the C4 corvette tail light conversions ive seen...ALMOST ha. and not to mention that whatever the exhaust note is, theres a subconcious connection that's gonna make a lot of people hear "OINK!!"

Just my opinion, but i think just as rear window louvers and yes...those god awful turbo hoods have fallen out of style, most other aftermarket hoods will look more and more dated as time passes and people realize how truely timeless the FACTORY hoods and overall design are.

cowl induction...not bad, since they fit the style as long as its a sharp fold, not a round bump.

motors poking through or no hood at all....clearly gonna attract the country music and nascar crowd but OK for strip/track i suppose

but ultimately for a clean look that almost everyone will like...get creative and fit everything under a stock hood! sleepers are more fun anyways.

Well when you have all that motor under a hood dont like the cowl hood. Why are you going to change your set up for a hood... I go to the track with my cars lol I like the motor hanging out. My Nova has it too been like that since my dad built it in 93 went 890s last summer with no hood and they loved it. Its a true street car.... Cowl hoods suck on cars with motors higher. To have the nova motor under hood I would have to have 8" hood and take my scoop off

Re: Hoods

First off I apologize if this is your car. I needed a third gen that was the same color as the hood. So I have a '76 Camaro hood that someone put the old tear drop style scoop on and I wanted to see what it would look like on a third gen so I cloned one on in photoshop

Or with a cut in scoop. Kind of like a later model Camaro SS hood

I'm just playing but I own lots of flat hoods I could do this to so what do you think??
