some maaco's are good, some bad, I've heard extremely mixed reviews but if I were you I try the section towards the bottom of the page that is dedicated to your part of the country.
and since all maaco's are independently owned its really unfair to judge one by another's work.

You did what we tell people to do when they come into the shop where I work. Go to the Maaco you are thinking about using and look at their work. You might also ask if they have more than 1 painter. Some are better than others. Another variable is wether they have 6 cars to get painted that day or 13. Then when you are ready to commit... do most of the prep work yourself. The only down side is that in 6 months the cheap materials will start to break down and it will cost twice as much as it would have to have a shop do a decent job the first time.

An alternative.... Check with your local autobody supply store and see if they know someone painting cars on the side and using better paints.

Are you going with a basecoat/clearcoat paint job from Maaco? I used their paint for my Subaru 4 years ago and it still looks new. But their single stage paint doesn't hold up very well. Anyway, as you probably know the paint job is only as good as the prep work, so I would do the prep work myself and have them squirt it. Then you can only blame yourself if it turns out bad. If you have heard bad things about that shop, I would look for someone else to do the work.

Re: Maaco in Clive, Des Moines Iowa

i just got my car back and its freaking nice. i got them to sand it and i dropped by after they did to see if it was good and they sanded it pretty damn good. the only problem i would have to complain about the paint would have to be that i got to wait a whole 4-6 weeks to wax it!!! lol but other then that its nice. i just got to by a new front emblem and a new rear Z28 emblem
