Rust in some odd spots

Well not so much odd spots,
more i have no idea how to address these rust spots..

I always try to cut rust and put new steel in its place but i just have no idea how to tackle these 3 spots.

Being so close to the windshield and being such a narrow patch of steel i don't think it would be wise to try and cut the rust and wield new steel in so any ideas?

Re: Rust in some odd spots

I don't know if i would cut out the windshield channel. It doesn't look so bad that you need to compeltely cut it out. Protect the window areas and areas with good paint, Grind or preferably sandblast the area, get rid of the rust, fill in with some patch if there is not to many or to big of a holes. if you have to maybe fill in a little with some welding (might have to pop the window out....not sure tho someone will chime in and let u know). I've had some rust like that before on a prevois car. Should be just a sand fill and paint.

I had big holes right above the driver window, I have a hole on the driver side pillar, and a hole on the driver side windshield corner. So far I've only filled the roof holes. I don't know why we have the same area problems.

Re: Rust in some odd spots

Id sand/grind away all the rust and if its rusted through pull the windshield and weld the holes shut. Otherwise fill it in and prime

Re: Rust in some odd spots

I figured it would be a simple sand and bondo then primer job just wasn't sure if that was the right step to take.

It might take awhile but i think i'm going to sand the areas by hand (the only power sanders or hand sanders i have are a bit large for that area) after i get that far ill see how bad the rust is if its to the point where the windshield needs to come out ill patch it for the time being till i get around to buying a new windshield no reason to take the old out and not put a new one in.

And as far as the rust being in that area of the car ive seen at least 10 diffrent f bodies in the boneyard with that same exact rust spots but they also were rusted very badly in other areas, the only other rust my car had was the firewall that was a nightmare looks good now though

(hard to get good pics of the firewall with the engine in the way also ignore the leaves cars parked under a tree atm i realy need a car cover >< )

Re: Rust in some odd spots

bondo would do just fine. but that is some thick rust man. just use the smallest sander you can get and use the edges of it.
