Towing

Hi have a 1986 Firebird. I have to tow it from the place I bought it. Is there any special way to tow firebirds. Only reason I"m asking is because the dealership where he bought the car said that if the car is towed from behind the body can flex and damage the back window. What should I do?

Re: Towing

I would suggest getting a flatbed to tow it much safer that way considering how low our cars sit to the ground

Re: Towing

it will fit fine on a car dolley ive done it a million times... make sure the straps are tight on the front tires and you will be fine with that... or like said just pay for it to be flat bedded but i my self dont trust toe truck drivers at all... most that ive delt with dont give a crap about the car that they are towing and usualy do more damage to it then it had before they got there so i my self eather dolly my cars my self or get ahold of my friend that drives a toe truck and i ride with him...

Re: Towing

ya I'd just let a pro do it on a flat bed, and yes if you tow it incorrectly there is a chance the rear windshield will blow out. one of my auto-body teachers has seen this happen.

Man, I know what you mean. I had my wife's 94 Pontiac Bonneville towed once, it had just received a new paint job and was looking sweet. She takes care of that car like I take care of my Camaro. Anyways, the driver hooks it up from the front and then throws on two auxillery tail lights on the trunk, the kind with magnets on the bottom. But he doesn't use the pads that are supposed to go between the metal and the magnet. I just stared at him and he looked at me like "What?" After some dealing they paid for the trunk lid to get painted. But WTF?????

Re: Towing

Alright, well the plan was to call caa. Does anyone know if they will send out a roll back truck? Also theres no plates on it right now. Does it matter? If it does if I throw a set of plates on there do they check them?

Re: Towing

No, they may want the vin number though. They may want proof of ownership.

Re: Towing

I got ahold of a buddy of mine and he said they won't send out a rollback. I guess I'm kinda screwed as far as paying an arm and a leg to tow it

Re: Towing

Well I am a TOW TRUCK driver! Two of my Coworkers also have Camaros. Thier is no need to flatbed these cars. If it is to low they will dolly it. We all care very much about how we tow the Cool cars of the world. If your car is a stick tow it from the front or remove the drive shaft if towing on a Uhaul or whatever dolly.
