body work info

I have an 85 berlinita that I want to change the bumpers to the R.S. body kit like my old 91. Would it be possible to take the bumpers off of a 91 R.S. and put them on my 85 berlinita?

Re: body work info

Interesting. A guy at a junk yard told me that only a body kit from a 85-87 would work for my car. Figure he said that to get me to buy the Iroc body kit he had for sale for $350.

The mounting areas are the same, but the bumper for the 91 is made for a ground effects car and your berlinetta is a non gfx car. You would need to put the quarter panel ground effects on to make it look right. If you do change the bumper, you'll probably end up adding ground effects to the entire car to make it look good.

There are three kinds of body kits made from 82-92. 82-84 was a smaller version of the 85-89 style with a really small chin spoiler. 90-92 is the style that has holes in the back of the chin spoiler and rocker panel pieces and is made out of plastic instead of fiberglass. 82-89 mounting is the same as far as I know. 90-92 is different than the others, but can be done on any 82-92 car.

Re: body work info

I plan on changing the whole body kit. Which do you think would look better honestly, the earlier ones or the 91 camaro body kit? Oh, I was also wondering if you knew where I could order replacement gauges for my car. The gas, oil, speedometer, tachometer and all of the other gauges dont work.

I would have to say that the 90-92 body kit looks the best to me. However, I went with the 85-89 style on my car to keep it looking somewhat stock (since its an 87). The 90-92 style also won't shatter if you roll over a curb and the rockers land on it. Its all plastic instead of fiberglass which helps prevent massive damage, but makes mounting a little interesting.

For gauges, I would recommend the junk yard, ebay, and for some, moderndaymuscle.com

Re: body work info

Thanks. I appreciate it. Looking stock isnt the biggest thing on my mind. I want it to look the nicest that it can. Eventually im going to put the camaro ss hoodscoop on it and repaint it midnight blue mettalic. Then im having military Jump Wings put on the hood.
