Steering column swap

Hey, I have an 88 and an 84 camaro. Restoring the 84 with the help of the 88. I was going to swap the steering columns, but I've ran into an issue. The steering shaft from the 88 seems to be too short to go through the firewall and connect. One is tilt and one is not. What could be the problem?

Re: Steering column swap

Any chance that the slider at the bottom of the column is pushed in a little on the column that doesn't fit? I had to work on mine and spray with white lithium grease before it would go back when putting in a new steering box. Eventually, it freed up.
