Water puddling in driver foot well
Getting error trying to do a search: java.lang.NullPointerException
Anyway, 1984 Trans Am with new windshield and front clip/subframe. Left it outside in the rain and there is water under the carpet. Looking for someone that found a leak in their firewall, HVAC, or strange path down A-pillars. Sprayed T-tops with hose and there is no sign of water dripping down on top of carpet or seats.
Anybody solve a similar problem?

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
Is it on both the driver's side and passenger's side, or just one side?

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
I was irritated at the time so I didn't bother pulling up the passenger side. I will check tonight.

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
I found about a half a dozen small holes in my cowl area. most were under the seam sealer that had lifted with age... causing the perfect spot for water to sit and eat away at the metal.
I was able to spot my leaks from under the dash but most I found by pulling the wiper arms off and removing the screen so I could get a flashlight in there.

Sounds like a good place to start.
When that cowl fills with snow and melts, where is the water supposed to drain to? I'm thinking this path might be plugged and backing water up through heater duct.

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
I didn't have water in the front, I had it in the back, and the problem was in the floor board where those "plugs" where that they weren't sealed so I had to seal them and that fixed the problem.
What you can do is take a bright shop light, set it on the floor on the driver side (carpet and all removed) and let it shine, then go see from the front if you are able to see any light coming through where you wouldn't expect it.

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
It is the driver foot well only.
Car was just sitting and got an inch of snow on it, so I doubt its coming up through the floor boards.

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
the opening on the drivers side is probably 1 - 1 1/2 inches tall by a couple of inches long. I have a pic but there isn't a good refrence point.

I have a pic down the passenger side cowl opening but the drain can't be seen.

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
I should have included more info in my previous posts...
in the first pic in post #10 you can see the windshield wiper arm near the bottom of the screen (just above the light colored section). the 2 black dots are holes that were under the seam sealer that was in this area ... see the rusty band ?? thats were I removed the seam sealer from. I don't know why it was there, there weren't any seams there.
the last pics in post # 10 and 11 are of the passenger side cowl opening.
there is a joint that can be seen in #10 just to the right of the sun washed area... that area had rust through spots under the seam sealer also.

Re: Water puddling in driver foot well
Thanks for your help Tony! I had two burn throughs from welding a new sub-frame on the car. They were just above the wire harness under the dash by the firewall pass through. The water in the cowl ran down the side like it was supposed to, but some would back up the seam between the upper frame rail and a-pillar the door hinges bolt to and drop into the car.
I've sprayed rust converter through outside drain opening and inside the car after cleaning it out. Today I'll spray under coating from the outside and silicone the inside holes.
