Re: T-Top Weatherstrip Kit?
I came across this thread regarding T-Top weatherstripping for T-Tops.
I have a set weatherstrips GM Part numbers 10198209 and 10198208 but they are the First design. My GM book does not show the updated version that resolves the leak issues.
These GM part numbers 10165495 and 10165494 were listed in this thread, are these the updated 2nd Design version of the T-Top Weatherstripping for all 82-92 Firebird and Trans Am's.
I would be interested to know
Thanks
Rob

Re: T-Top Weatherstrip Kit?
It'll behoove you to just instal without prepping the area. The proper way to replace is by removing the old weatherstrip and clean area with a degreaser. Then visually inspect for rust damage. If everything is good to go, then proceed with installation. Be sure to use weather strip glue. But if there is rust, then your gonna have to visit the body shop to remove the affected rust area and replace with new metal, primer, repaint area with color matching paint, then clearcoat. Then proceed with installation. There may be other tips such as rustoleum. But ask around before you make a costly mistake.

I was asking because I came across this.
https://www.thirdgen.org/ttopleakfix
My car has been garage kept since it was 2 yrs old. I am the second owner so I don't know about the first 2 yrs. Since I've had it, it's hardly seen rain. Has only seen snow once. It's an 88. All the seals look good but, there is some leaking. That article kind of alluded to mistakes by GM that wouldn't be fixed by just putting another weatherstrip in???

I'd like to hear from some of the guys that have replaced their seals. Where they got the parts and what part # or manufacturers. Then their results. Did it take care of all leaks or did you have to do the silicone thing too?
The first post in this thread was from 2008 so I know alot of guys have made the repairs.

Re: T-Top Weatherstrip Kit?
O.K. Thanks. BTW, . Can I just replace the rubber and reuse the plastic pieces? They have the little "drip" piece towards the front of the glass. The Gif. attach has the seal strip #4 for $37.11/$28.32 left/right and #3 retainer for $25.00 each side then #2 as the weather strip. $32.00. Is it absolutly nessesary to replace all the t-top pieces? I also wondered why one side is more expensive than the other side. Wierd!!

OK - thanks, I haven't even gotten to open my hatch yet, so I can't attest to the weatherstripping there but thanks just in case.

Re: T-Top Weatherstrip Kit?
I just bought an 86 IROC Z28 Friday. It needs a few things and t top seals look to be one of the things that could stand to be replaced soon. Are the OER brand seals any good and do they fit well? I'd rather have GM ones but almost $550 for a set is ridiculous and if there's a brand that fits and functions as well that's the route I'll likely go. I ran across the OER brand while doing an Internet search and I can get a set of them for just under $260. Anybody here have any experience with them?

I got my genuine GM set from 1A Auto not that long ago. Was a bit pricey, but OEM was necessary to me.

Re: T-Top Weatherstrip Kit?
I totally agree that the GM ones are pricey and I'd much rather use GM parts but I was wondering if the OER brand in particular was just as good since they are a licensed GM restoration part? What about the Soffseal brand? The more brands and more experiences and brands to totally avoid the better! Really none of them are cheap price wise but I know there have to be brands out there where the manufacturer cuts corners and makes a horrible fitting and functioning product. Thanks for the replies and keep them coming! It sure helps when you know by someone else's experience what to avoid! That's why I love these forums! Joe

I've learned the hard way when I ordered this kit for door frame http://www.firebirdcentral.com/1982_...ng_p/wea-4.htm It would not fit unless modified and stretched but the door would not shut. I guess $69.95 sounded too good to be true

Thanks! This is the kind of information and experience that I'm looking for to weed out the ones that are a waste of time and money! I appreciate the reply! Joe

Re: T-Top Weatherstrip Kit?
No problem! Actually I am not too sure if I contacted Firebird Central back then. I may have forgotten! Out of frustration I just tossed everything in the garbage, reinstalled the OEM rubber and forgot about the whole thing. So in the name of fairness, I wrote a review today and submitted it to Firebird Central.

Re: T-Top Weatherstrip Kit? Camaro 1985 z28. I’ve tried to get the parts from gm,
Even though it is from YearOne, I wouldn't buy aftermarket weatherstripping, especially t-top weatherstripping. I just replaced mine last weekend, and it sucked. I hope I never have to do that again. I bought GM weatherstripping and I had no issues at all with fitment.

You probably thought about it but here it is: have you tried adjusting the T-Top "locking pin receivers"? You can adjust them a bit. Had to do it on my Camaro 1989 as the wind noise was terrible.

I owned a 1972 Buick GS for 21 years. I used the Steel Rubber weatherstripping on that car & everything fit great. The trunk seal had to be cut down to reduce the thickness. No leaks.
