thinking of making a sport coupe
I know this might sound a little wierd but i have a 91 camaro with ground effects and i really like the looks of the sport coupes. i was wondering if its possible to change and how hard is it. do i just need new front and rear bumper covers or do i need new fenders also.

if your eliminating the ground effects all together then you would need to fill holes on the doors, fenders, rear quarters, replace the bumpers as the rear is molded in and the front is bolted together, and then eliminate the braces for the ground effects for the side skirts.

i got a friend with an s/c and i will say its a diffrent look, i think all you need to chage is the front clip and back clip and then clean up where the ground effects are on the sides, but im not to sure of that also

Re: thinking of making a sport coupe
I want to do the same with mine. I have done some searches and research on here and I get the impression that to swap the front bumper cover you need to swap all the reinforcements and brackets also. Not sure on this, but I think everything forward of the core support is different on the non-GFX style nose. Maybe MW66Nova can chime in on this since he has done the swap on his. I love the clean look of the sport coupes.

i don't believe so...only diff in under the front is the cusioning should be diff for 82-84 and 85-92. GFX shouldn't make a diff to my knowledge as it gets attatched to the bottom of the bumper cover which is connected to the bumper reinforcement reguardless IIRC.

Re: thinking of making a sport coupe
84redta pretty much summed it up.
Your biggest issue aside from filling holes, will be removing the bracket that is spot welded to the rocker panels. It runs pretty much the length of the door along the rocker.
The only thing I don't like on the sport coupes is the three holes above the grill.
My old 87 SC had an 82-84 Z28 nose minus the lower gfx on it. Actually didn' look too bad. That's how I can still spot the car lol.

Re: thinking of making a sport coupe
ya im planning on there being some rust to fix, ive checked in some of my magazines and they list different fenders for the 91 and 92 camaros than the 82-90. did any of the body lines change or did they stay the same from 82-92.

Re: thinking of making a sport coupe
not to my knowledge...if there was any change it was 84 to 85, of which and can almost promise you there was none. And from word of mouth i've heard of people using 88-90 fenders on 91-92. To my knowledge it's all the same...i think it may just break it down 82-84 plain and body kitted, 85-86 plain while 85-90 body kitted, and then 91-92 body kitted. I think thats a fair break down of how the fenders may show up which would just represent the hole differences for the body kits.

Re: thinking of making a sport coupe
I have seen it said on here that the 91-92 fenders have a slot stamped out in them that a tab on the GFX fits into but I haven't pulled mine apart to verify it.

Re: thinking of making a sport coupe
yea like i said...i can only assume the ground effects bolt on slightly differently (because of the air scoop), thats all i would assume, i could be wrong. Haven't owned or closely analyzed one so i can't speak 100% promises. You could ultimately see if you could go to a JY by you and see if they got any 85-90s with body kits and just uninstall the inner wheel well protector to see how much difference their could be. Otherwise someone else can chime in with a little 91/92 experience.
