It's the tan material that you would use to recover a headliner here's a sample and the visors are the same color

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

That really sucks. The new Pontiac Seems to only designs cars for women mostly. The GTO isnt even being done either. I didnt see it at the show yesterday. All of these G6,7,8,etc cars really suck. Man where is Pontiac going. Its sad.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

Speaking of KITT, did anyone see yesterdays 1st Knight Rider.

KITT in pieces at the beginning of the show. That was hard to watch. '

Then the Lady cop comes out of the bathroom and tells the hot blonde on her bed that she's going to work and that she can stay as long as she wants. Im looking at that and think Knight Rider series with a love affair but not with micheal in it but 2 girls. If Im wrong please tell me but a lesbian relationship on Knight rider. WOW.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

Forgot to tell you. Yesterday had some time to work on the Firebird. I had to patch some holes on the floor boards. I removed the car cover off of it and the dam cover rubbed into the clear coat throught out the car. I was pissed. I try some 3m compond on it and and didnt work. Now for sure Im going to have to paint the car now. It looks bad. I also think I got a exhaust leak somewhere because it sounds louder then before.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

well we know that one is kitt (knight industries two thousand), the others could be either KARR (knight automated roving robot), and kift (knight industries four thousand) from the knight rider 2000 movie. or there could be the 1/2nd season kitt and 3/4th season kitt there.

Well I'm fairly sure that the NBC pilot doesn't include any other of the Knight Rider incarnations (i.e. Knight Rider 2000, Knight Rider 2010, and Team Knight Rider). So it looks as if one is the original KITT, the other may be the new KITT, and the last one...who knows. KARR was destroyed and KIFT isn't included in this series, if I'm not mistaken.

I got the stuff in today, but at work and will wait to open when I get home. thanks alot for everything. I think I might have found a Formule Hood, Wheels and covers and Bumper, but the guy is telling me the bumper wont fit a 91. Its off a 84 Trans am. Is that true or it should work.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

If your talking about the rear bumper then no it won't fit that is why you have to cut it down that is what I referred to several posts ago.

Man I got to say one thing on this new knight rider stuff. Yes I liked the show the new and the old. I grew up with the 1st show but man for the past 5 years I have wanted to change my car to black with flat black rally stripes and now the new K.I.T.T has it. Now that I have gotten to the point of get a new paint job it some what ruineds it. If I get it it means that everyone well say "o you got the same paint job as the knight rider car"

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

Well my $1500 budget to get my bird exterior to look like kitts has been reduced to $650, Reason I spoke to my buddy thats been installing a engine, tranny and posi rear end in my 68 Charger. That his total for extras including a new drive shaft and my dash is going to need a restro on it to due to none of the gauges are working. I did test them and got voltage readings and were good and double checked fuses and connections and still not work, so for both those units to be fixed or replaced was an extra $850 on top of what I already owe him which is several grand. I can try to make it up but my mom has also been in the hospital 3 times in Jan 08 and the bills are getting out of control so extra dole that I make is trying to help her with those bills. So I have $650, that car is still going to be painted black and Im going to buy a 82 through 84 Trans am nose and rig it to install the light. Also I got a guy saying he should be able to get me the turbo cast wheels for $200. It sucks man, but I love my mom I have to help her but GOOD news Im still going ahead to get my bird in looking like K.I.T.T so not everything is a total loss.
----------
Also will 82-87 trans am rear dark lights fit into our 91 bird. Im looking at some of those also. I cant see a reason why but would I have to rig the wires also.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

They will fit but out taillights have a separate bulb for turn and brake then transams have theres as a combo light and you just can't combine the wires cause then when you try to use the turn and are on the brake the light won't flash. What I did was I used a hd trailer tailight converter and wires them that way. If you want give me a phone call my # is 2012228690

you better watch out ive got a 92 firebird here that my girlfreind wanted to convert to kitt i had got all the needed parts but the bar that holds on the rocker ground effects is welded on not bolted so we sold off the kitt parts other then the formula hood and i just put a gta bumpers on
not to mention haveing to fill in all the holes
go find a 87-92 formula it will make your job so much easier or a base firebird with no ground effects just the formulas already have the hood ive also seen mods to the 91-92 formula front bumpers that add the scanner gave it a much more modern and sleek style

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

at the time i felt i wasnt worth doing the bondo work

300 for the car 70 for a formula front clip 30 for the formula hood .
then it was 560 for the kitt bumper not including any scanner parts im glad she changed her mind sold the one kitt bumper .
was able got a full GTA ground effects package with both bumpers and tail lights for 350 she is still getting it painted black

mine are riveted on and I got smaller GFX from sfusco3 to cover up most of the holes and will look for 82-84 trans am nose and retrofit it and should be to much of a problem. Once weather breaks Im going to look for a Formula Hood and trans am bumper and that should be it. Also the car needs a full paint job due to the dam car cover rubbed the clear coat off through out the car.

Car: 91 firebird, 89 trans am GTA
Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

Sorry but you have to put the tracking #'s in they are the one that are highlighted. I have never had a wheel bearing issue. They one I have now are not the same ones I had on the gta rims cause I went to the 14's rims first then the 15's I have now. The stock tire size in 91 firebirds was 235/60-15 and the stock for trans ams was 215/65-15. I have the 215/65's on mine. but you can go plus or minus 5%

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

Just a quick update. Ive been working 6 day wks for the past 2 month so trying to finsh the interior and Im 95% done and will try to start on the body tomorrow if possible and will try to take some pics but someone in the family dropped my digital camera and its not working correctly now. So might buy a new one. Got a 88 Formula hood last wk in black and in great shape for $30 bucks.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

I have a 90 hardtop Formula I put a lot of time and money into just like you, I wanted t-tops though. So after a few months of thinking of all the options and costs I decided to buy an older (87) carbureted Formula with t-tops. The engine was ok but had high miles (60k more than the 90), and the body needed little work and the interior was completely shot. I knew that the 90 had perfect interior except the carpet. So I bought the 87 for 850 bucks and did a swap. I am almost finished. The engine and all suspension came out of the 90 into the 87. Interior from the 90 into the 87 with new carpet.

So, you love your car right? You value the time and money you already put into it? Swap it. Find something older and swap it.

Besides since I swapped to an older car that was originally carbureted I got to take off the smog junk, throw on headers and replace the intake and carb with Edelbrock parts. Now the 87 is faster than it was before and faster than the 90 was.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

Dam Speedy, you really wanted T Tops. Great job man. I dont think I would do that, but If I cam upon a Trams am with all the goodies in it that was wrecked. I just might yank that engine tranny and other good stuff and Put it into my bird now. Well the interior is done. Finshed up the last panels yesterday and did a deep cleaning thing and then some armor all and man it looks awesome. Well the body is next but I might need surgery on my left elbow so will know by end of next wk. Hope not then that going to mess all of my future projects.

Re: Thinking on doing a K.I.T.T replica

Actually, the car was 850, the guy delivered it from Richmond Va to Chattanooga Tn for me for an extra 250. So, 1100. The tranny had just been rebuilt with an aggressive shift kit only 1k miles before I bought it. The transmission made a huge improvement on performance. So the way I saw it, I paid 1k for a rebuilt tranny, that's what it typically costs to rebuild the 700R4 anyway, and it came with a free car for me to put my engine and interior in :-)
