I had a 88 TA that I ended up parting out years ago and the rocker GFXs are fiberglass and the mounts was removable. I now have a 89 GTA parts car and I noticed that the rocker GFXs are plastic, there still on the car so I don't know if the mounts are removable. Did GM change from fiberglass to plastic in the 85-90 models? Are all rocker GFX mounts removable from 85-90? Thx.

should be removeable. have pictures?

inside the door it self and on top and below the door sill there are nuts and screws.

also within the quarter panel and inside the fender there are more self tapping nuts.

get inside and remove all those nutz and screws and the rockers will fall off.

Bobby, I know how to remove them, I'm just asking about the plastic and fiberglass and the mounts being removable in 85-90 Firebirds. Thx. though.

The rockers are all plastic, but the pieces for the doors are fiberglass. Every '85- '90 set I've seen that was the case, anyway.

I still have the fiberglass rocker GFXs and the door GFXs from that 88 TA. Are all the mounts removable (held on with screws) from 85-90?. I know for a fact the 91-92 are not removable (spot welded) well you could drill out the spot welds.

All TA's from 84-92 have plastic rocker gfx.All the monting brackets are screwed and spot welded.Are you sure the rockers are from a TA and not a camaro?The camaro rockers were fiberglass up to 91-92.

Maybe someone changed them for whatever reason?

Off a 82-84 camaro, no way. Were 85-90 camaros indented where the emblems go on the rocker GFX?

all trans am rocker ground effects were rubber/plastic and the mounts were removable. all rocker ground effects for camaros, up to 91 were fiberglass, they're mounts were not removable.

Has everyone removed rocker GFX from every year between 85-90 on camaros and firebirds? VIN verified 88 TA with fiberglass rocker GFX and removable mount with no spot welds. No evidence of body work. I don't believe they were from a camaro, read post #8. Possible aftermarket replacement. Anyone know of a company that could have made these? With all the different parts all over these cars varying from year to year and changes due to vendor problems it might be possible that GFXs were also affected. Anyone actually removed rocker GFXs from a 88 TA?

al i can say is that on all third gen camaros and firebirds equipped with ground effects, the brackets for the rocker ground effects are welded to the rocker. with 85-90 trans ams they have an additional bracket that is held onto the welded on brackets with nuts, and are screwed to the rocker using 7mm screws. they use the extra bracket for support becouse the ground effects were made of a rubber type material. on 82-84 camaro the rockers were fiberglass but smaller than the 85-90 versions. 91-92 were made of the same type of rubber as the trans ams. none of the camaros used the additional supports as the trans am did. the rockers u have off the 88 must be some sort of aftermarket kit, that come with they're own brackets that screw on, maybe it was a formula or base frebird and someone wanted it to look like a trans am so they bought an aftermarket kit??? this is all i can tell you. i hope it helps

Thx. for all the replies. I just went to look for them and I forgot that I had sold them awhile back. They were all fiberglass and must have been a aftermarket kit. Out of all the cars I parted out, fixed, restored and sold this was the only older than a 89 that I took the rocker GFXs off. I thought it might have been a 88 and older thing.
