I have a bone stock '84 Firebird. I dont really care for the stock tail lights, and I wanna know if I can upgrade to some newer lights without doing any custom work?

pretty sure every firebird/Trans Am tail light will work, not 100% though.

 

every firebird/T.A light will bolt up but i think there is a different wiring loom for the later lights.

 

Any 85-90 Trans Am or GTA Lights will be a direct swap. (and are the best looking 3rdgen bird tail lights In My Opinion)
The 86-92 Firebird or 91-92 Trans Am/GTA lights will take some socket swapping and rewiring.

 

All lights between 82-92 are physically interchangeable on birds. The wiring is different. The easy fix is to cut the light socket off for the turn signals and wire in a 90 degree light socket. The T/A lights do not allow enough room for the long turn signal socket on non T/A cars. You cannot just swap wiring looms. The wires from the start of the harness are different all the way to the back.

Let me know if you need a set of smoothed and polished T/A lights.

 

yeah thats what i ment, The body loom is different from front to back but if he goes with the 85-90 T.A lights he wont have a problem.
I like the 82-84 lights the best, the flat cover on the 85+ ones looks too plane for me.
But I moded the internals of my stock lights so at night they look like this


But the wiring was all hacked up when i got it, i still need to work on it.

 

i like my t/a lights grid style. just polished them and am waiting on Stephen and Lou for them sts controller for the turn signals to scroll. cannot wait for that.
