Anybody use these tail lights?

I saw these tail lights for sale on F-body motorsports and wondered what they looked like on a camaro, anyone use them before?

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

You'd have to figure out some kind of side markers. Those delete the lights on the corners which serves as side markers.

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

interesting, but I don't see any provisions for backup lights.
That problem and the previously pointed out missing markers render them illegal on a street use vehicle. So you'd have to rig up something custom to fix those issues.

Yeah, lagality is an issue, but they do look cool, I just want to see what they look like, not too hard to rig something up for back-up lights or side markers.

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

If you do decide to get one, I advise you to look for a different place to buy from, just check the vendor review board on this site to see why I would avoid F-Body Motorsports like the Plauge!

Here's a pic I grabbed off the net a few years ago, I believe he was a member here.

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

Just use a set of Firebird side marker lights, no big deal. Grab a set off a Firebird, cut the rectangular holes, and your all set. No biggie.

BUT, I think its UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought maybe you were referring to custom recessing the marker light, like those fugly Vette style lights are recessed.

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

I think with maybe a little bondo to smooth it out to make it look like its part of the sheet metal it may look a litle better, but i still probably wont be adding those to my car.

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

My friend had those on his black 87 Camaro and they looked better since they blended in with the car easier.
Different states have different requirements for auxillary lighting, and reverse lights are listed as auxillary in VA and if there are no provisions for them on the car (after you put these on there are no provision for them) then you will pass state inpsection without having them.

The idea sounds cool, but after seeing the pic of it actually on the car.......I'd have to say that's FUGLY. It looks way out of place.

I kind of figured it wouldn't look good. It doesn't go with the car. It's like adding a modern spoiler, just doesn't look right. Ratherm take a look at the guy whose making led's out of his lights, freakin crazy

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

Ive seen those before!! but they were on a car that had the 91-92 high rise spoiler, they did`nt look bad on it, but that pic above with the standard spoiler does look awful!! and be prideful of the fact that our $500-$5000k can potentialy beat a vette, and it`s always better to show that vette camaro tail lights with pride, than to beg for vette acceptance by being a wannabe,,,right? lol!!

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

Those taillights are disgusting. I own a Corvette and a Firebird for a reason........I like them both. I have no desire to intertwine one with the other.

As a 'vette owner, nothing I hate more then things that knock off 'vettes and those taillights are one of those things. How many trucks have I seen with those stupid knock-off 'vette taillights alone and now to think they would have something like that for an F-Body?! Terrible!!!!!!!!!!!

A 'vette can in no way shape or form be mistaken for an F-body. Let alone an F-body has it's own history, it's own heritage, seperate from any other vehicle. I'd like to think it'll stay that way.

All depends who you want to impress . . .
Yourself - if you like them go for it.

I find it doesn't make the car look unique. Rather it makes it look like it's trying to look like something else.
Probably a love-em or hate-em kind'a thing.

They aren't made aftermarket. People paint their stock lenses with a translucent red paint, to get rid of the amber.

Found info on translucent paint for anyone that want to know:

http://www.2objet.com/Misc/Penetrati...1/Default.aspx

looks pretty easy. I'm not sure if you apply on the inside or outside though. I'm guessing inside. If anyone knows please post.

in my state (south carolina) any mods to any vehicular lighting that isnt factory is illegal. so im ridin dirty as they say. since i have clear corner markers, H4 unsealed conversion with 8000k HID's, and all red tail lights. they rarely pick up on stuff like that and even with the vette lights they would have to have another reason to pull you most likely but then again thats my state not yours

In the pic I put up it looks as if the amber was "washed out" or something. can this be done? In the url I put up pit says something about a chemical that will dilute the stain. Can it be done this way?

I was thinking...That's the best conversion I've seen, so I got to looking at it closer, and zooming in on Photoshop....IT'S A PHOTOSHOP!!!

If you look close, the amber & red sections are identical...left to left & right to right. And notice, the black grids, on the right, don't match up, amber/red section, to the Reverse light section. Those were what REALLY tipped me off, so I took a closer look.

Anybody here gonna own up to the Photoshopping?

There is no way to get the color out of the plastic. The color isn't a "top" coat, the plastic is colored all the through.

It looks like red tint. You can buy heat-shrinking tint to do lights and stuff now. thats what it looks like to me.

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

i had the vette tails - that's my iroc in both of the pictures above. I still have them sitting in the garage though. I had them on the car for 6 or so years, and i just got sick of them.

i never did them to look the part of a vette though, i just think the stock taillights are boring, and i tried blackouts years ago and was pulled over within weeks.

but the main issue i have with the stock taillights is really the amber sections, so I did this over the summer:

it's done with red adhesive backed vinyl i found on ebay. I didn't actually do the red lights, only the amber and the white backups, but the match is really really close unless you're 6 inches away.

I also did my side marker lights too just for the hell of it.

the side markers and the backups are technically not legal, but the backups still come on pretty white, and i have two white lights on my license plate lighting up white too (this is what i ran for backup lights with the corvette tail). so we'll see if i take any crap for it.

It's clearly an altered picture. The red lenses were copied and pasted over the amber lenses.

That's kinda what I was thinking.

If you look close, the amber & red sections are identical...left to left & right to right. And notice, the black grids, on the right, don't match up, amber/red section, to the Reverse light section. Those were what REALLY tipped me off, so I took a closer look.

Anybody here gonna own up to the Photoshopping?
I can't remember who's site I got that off of. I just thought it looked cool and didn't really inspect it THAT close.

Any1 got a link for that translucenct red heatshrink tape or whatever?

Yep. Notice the light glare is identical on the L & L and the R & R match? And the sloped black line on the right, under the lenses? Photochop.

Re: Anybody use these tail lights?

I noticed it after your post. I still want tailights like that, but I think I'd like them on my car and not in cyberspace.
