GTA fog lights
At first, I was just going to get a set of C4 lights, and mod my bumper to fit them, like this guy did below...
Then I thought....I've got a spare set of GTA fog lights, brackets & all, and had this crazy idea...Why not just cut the bumper cover opening wider, and run 4 GTA stock lights? Instead of custom fabbing brackets for the C4 lights. Certainly much easier. I did a MS Paint chop idea of what the GTA dual lights per side would look like.

Re: GTA fog lights
Hey Thanks...I just bought it 2 months ago actually and it was well taken care of... needed some things done though but that's past me now...anyway i'm from Canada so it has around 160,000km's... thats about 99,000 miles for ya...but the engine was rebuilt 2 years ago for $5000 (have receipt from owner) so that was awesome...and its a true GTA also which is good...the only thing I would like to get is a new paint job because in the sun from certain angles you can see all the swirl marks...annoying and doesn't look good lol but from a couple feet away in the shade it looks like new...so far I have only seen one GTA in my city of about 200,000 people....so its nice to have something different than every one else "cough" FORD Mustangs cough" lol....anyway thanks for the comment...Josh

Re: GTA fog lights
I'm diggin both setups....
Of course, the quad fogs would be ALOT easier than the C4 lights. Just fire up the jig saw, bolt on some brackets, splice some wires, and it's done.
But, if you wanted to go the C4 route, you've got the extra nose off the 89 that we could fill in the indentions for the parking lights and smooth out like the silver car. That's a nice smoothed-over look for the 85-90 nose. I think it complements the car very nicely. Plus, it's different, which is always good.

Re: GTA fog lights
You know, I was thinkning, if I did the dual GTA lights I'd mount them equally deeo, not stepped, like in the pic.
But the more I look at it, I think KITT, which I've always liked, but didn't care for 3 lights per side. 2 would look good. "Stepped" instead of equally deep.
As far as mounting them...Simple. They have the stock brackets still on them. All we'd hafta do is, drill 4 holes for the brackets, put in 4 bolts, 8 washers, and 4 nuts. Wire them in, and we're golden! Trim the bumper cover, touch up the edges of the cuts, and sit back! Wouldn't even hafta use the spare nose (it was a PAIN to get off!), or pull the 87 nose off.

Re: GTA fog lights
Yeah, it wouldn't take much at all to do the two per side. I agree, equally deep is the way to go, it would look pretty stock and you can aim them to give you the best light coverage to help avoid those damn deer in the future.
It's one of those "subtle" mods I like so much. The way GM should have done it. I've got them all over my car, and most people never even notice until I point it out.

Re: GTA fog lights
Well...I wondered about the amperage draw, and needing to supply a different power wire, to avoid blowing a fuse...
So, I wired the 2 89 lights in a chain, and used my multi-meter...7.3 amp draw for 2 lights...which should make 14.6-15 amps for all 4 lights. Which means, I can simply wire them into the stock lights, run a 20 amp fuse (I'm assuming one fuse controls both sides), and I'm golden!
I wanna go find some white edge trim first, to provide that finished look to the openings, instead of trying to dab paint on...not that my paint job is any good though.

Re: GTA fog lights
What kind of edge trim are you talking about? Like the door edge guard trim stuff? When the final openings are cut in the bumper get me the measurements of the openings. I can fab you some opening frames that'll basically act the same as the edge trim, but will look much cleaner, almost flush.
You can go with white, but I'd go with black, on about a 1/4" to 3/8" trim around the openings in the bumper. Just my

Yeah, I was thinking about that door edge trim. Simple & cheap.
What kinda trim you talking about making? The stock openings are just openings, no trim. I just figured it might need some kind of trim, to hide the cuts (unpainted urethane edges), hence the white. But black might hide better.
I didn't wanna cut the openings, then run around with only 1 light in there, and have a big ugly hole, with nothing to fill it.

Re: GTA fog lights
All I'd have to do is make 4 pieces for each opening (top, bottom, both sides). It's basically the same as the door guard, but better, better looking and free. For instance, here's a random size: 12" long piece of 26 guage sheetmetal 3/4" wide, I'll fold it in half so it's 3/8" wide, paint it, slip it on the edge of the opening. It's simple, clean looking, and wont come off. I'm back in the shop now, so whenever you decide what size holes you want just let me know the opening sizes and I'll fab up the trim. It'll take me all of about 5-10 minutes to make it....Or, if you really wanna get snazzy I can make them out of 304 stainless.

Re: GTA fog lights
Sounds pretty good, but how would the sheet metal pieces address the curves of the corners?
That's one reson I was thinking of door trim. I was thinking that plastic/rubbery stuff.

Re: GTA fog lights
After it's folded in half all I have to do is run it through the roller at the right spot in the metal to get the bend. With the right measurements I can do each side in just one piece. Plus, it would add support to the holes.
