Steering column rebuild time?
The steering column shaft in my IROC has excessive play where it couples to the steering coupler assembly. I can grab onto the end of the steering column shaft and see the excessive play and whenever I turn the wheel sharply it clunks.. I replaced the steering coupler shaft because it was shot but think that the bearings in the column itself are shot as well.
If you've encountered this problem, and or if you've rebuilt the steering column, I'd appreciate your feedback.
Thanks

Re: Steering column rebuild time?
Vader posted the most definitive instructions I've seen yet on tearing into the steering column in this thread:

Re: Steering column rebuild time?
Thanks NAF.
Are the bearings inside the column that support the shaft assembly subject to or prone to failure also? Grasping onto the end of the shaft assembly in the engine compartment, the shaft has what seems to be excessive lateral movement. Is that normal? Or should I be focusing on repair of the tilt side of the column?
Thanks again.
