Looks good.
Another idea is to do a frenched antenna. Or even modifying that idea by making the antenna tip finished like the body so that when it is down, it blends with the finish and essentially disappears.

I think if you don't listen to AM/FM radio in your car, that it can enhance the look of the car. Might be annoying to the next owner of the car, though.

They make flat antennas that you can mount under the dashpad. Dunno about any additional stress on the dashpad, but I know for a fact they get reduced signal. Out in the boonies you'd better have a CD, but in the city you'd still get good signal.

Shaved FTW!
You can get amplified glass mount antennas. They are usually little black boxes you can mount above your rear view mirror, or in some cases under the dash pad (up high in the dash though), and get as good or sometimes better reception than with the passive antenna.

I shaved mine on the TA and am very happy I did it.
I ran an antenna pulled from a yard car inside the frame rail since I had the fender off.

Re: shaved antenna yay or nay
Just run a stock antenna mast under the dashpad. Worked for me in two cars so far. $10 for a generic antenna if the old one gets killed during removal.
For the hole, I JB/fiberglassed a sheetmetal patch underneath the hole and held it in place w/duct tape. Sounds ghetto, but you can't tell it was ever there. I did the repair in 2001...and this was on a Ford, which has crap for sheetmetal compared to the Pontiac.

Re: shaved antenna yay or nay
Since I need to replace my fenders, Im thinking about doing this as well. I was going to use a power antenna...but if I cant get that to work, Im going with shaved.
I actually saw someone do it without welding before. Sounds similar to what the guy above said. He used a junk fender off a 3rd gen. Cut the donor metal off right behind the actual ant. hole so the curves matched. He cut VERY precisely, and dressed the edges really well. When it was fitted, you could only see a faint outline of the piece. Sort of like on mercedes and bmws...those little panels in the bumpers and sides of the car for various options or jack points or whatever. Anyway...he painted the piece to match, cleared it and buffed it. Held it in with an epoxied bracket, and sealed the seam from below. Looked really really great. And if he didnt want it anymore, just pop off the bracket and your hole is back.
Ide rather patch it with weld and smooth it...but if your car has awesome paint, why go through all that just to avoid a line.

My car isn't worth that much effort, being a daily driver 5.0 Mustang I cheaped out compared to what your guy did. Sounds like his was a regular piece of art. With the Formula I'll ask the bodyman to weld something in...

I took the antennae out. Reception is fine in city. Sattelite radio is the way to go though. I would almost go without a CD player and only satellite radio.

I actually have a 4 inch stubby antenna that I put on years ago. I'm happy with it and it looks good, and if I ever change my mind and wanna put on the stock mast it'll only take a minute and everything is where it's supposed to be.

Re: shaved antenna yay or nay
It's quite easy to do... I've done it on my Integra... I used a ballpeen hammer to knock the metal down some and once the metal wasn't flat anymore, I put a sheet of fiberglass on the inside of the fender... Waited for that to dry and then filled the hole in with some kitty hair and then smoothed it out with a little bit of bondo... I did that 3 years ago and it hasn't cracked out one bit yet...
I also used a one of those antennas that are supposed to mount on the glass but I just mounted mine under the dash... Reception is fine for me... Here's a pic when I was doing the body work...

I shaved mine too, just havent gotten paint on it yet.
I ended up running it under the dash and keeping the antenna under the plastic a pillar, and the tip of it tucks under the headliner.

Yay.
It improves the look of the car by 7 fold.
Its kind of like chip foose's philosophy - its not what you can add to a car, its what you can't take away.
My project car has no antenna either.

Shaved mine just pulled the whole stereo since the cars mainly gonna be for track use. Are those step above with the hammer and fiberglass filler for shaving a gas cap? Cause I'm gonna do that on the same car since I got a fuel cell

Re: shaved antenna yay or nay
I like the look of the shaved antenna, and if I ever had any body work done on that fender, I would do it. For now, I have an electric antenna that the "tip" actually goes below the surface of the fender, so all you see is a tiny hole where the mast comes out of. From many different angles (besides the top, obviously) it looks like its shaved, but I like the fact that its electric, since I feel it gives it a "technologically updated" look...

Seemed to work well, but my stock radio was toasted. The car has been down for a while and just getting back to putting it back together, I'm hoping it'll work well, and will know when I get a new radio in it.

I shaved my antenna on my '92 firebird and i love it. It cleans up the look of the car soo much. I didnt mind getting rid or it. I listen to CD's mostly anyways and i got crappy reception with it. So glad i got rid of it.

If you like it be my guest, but yeah, I wouldn't do anything that'll make it possibly difficult to sell the vehicle down the road.

An older thread, but I've got an antenna that's flexible for my 67 Camaro that runs along the inside of the fender well. I still get decent reception and no visible antenna.
