I had a turbocharged SVO Mustang. Blew the motor racing an Iroc. Since then I've owned 11 F-bodys.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
I owned 4 or 5 3rd gens in High School, not to mention a couple really nice 2nd gens! When I graduated I had a 1980 Z28 with a 383 stroker and a 4spd.... what I'd give to get that Z back.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
I graduated in 98 also and have had the car since Aug 97. In 3 weeks it will be 10 years, 3 wrecks totaling around $16K in damages, and finally the LS1 swap as it currently sits. My car sat for 3 years before the swap and i am so glad that i didnt sell it.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
i bought a third gen when i was in highschool...i was actually in between two as a choice for a second car, an 87 camaro (dressed up like a z28) and a 87 t/a...i wound up with the t/a and i'm veryhappy with the decision lol...i remember i used to talk smack to my buddy who had a suped up 79 formula with an old vette engine him and his dad put in....nice car, but if it came down to show and no go, i'd win haha...i actually met the guy who first owned my car (i bought off of the second owner) and he actually bought the car when he was in high school too lol got it cuz his buddy got a z28 and wanted to try to show him up haha

I'm gonna be a junior this year. got mine about three weeks ago. Saved my tips for a good week an a half at ihop and bought me my formula. Bought it from a good friend of mine. They're all about ford (302 ranger, 04 GT, 07 GT/CS, 01 cobra) and didn't want it. So I took it off they're hands for a grand

Well, I just sold my RS a few weeks ago and just bought a 95 Trans Am. Well, I may buy a GTA just to keep the third gen love in High School.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
I graduated high school in 88 and I bought my 88 IROC convertible as a graduation present to myself. It was ordered with all options, black exterior, gray interior. I still have it and it looks just as good as the day I got it. I worked two jobs to get it paid off in 3 years and then I went to college. I definitely had my priorities straight. Wow, can't believe it will be 20 years old next year. Maybe I should drive it to my 20 year reunion.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
I'm an old dude, too...
But yeah...I got my '92 Firebird 305 TBI auto during my Senior year. Traded it on a '92 S-10 Blazer shortly after graduation in '95.
I got my '97 LT4 Firehawk new in March of '98, and the third gen bug recently bit again so I got the '87 T/A just last year. Since I've gotten it fixed up, I've not had the urge to run the Firehawk as much...hopefully a good thing!
My older brother had an '83 Z28 (bought wrecked, and he made it into a pretty good '87 IROC clone) as his first car, through graduation, too. Sold it shortly after, bought an '88 IROC about a year and a half ago.
I guess we're both relivin' the high school days...

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
in 10th grade i got a 1992 dodge stealth, it's a nice looking car. A lot of guys hated me cause they liked it, and some just thought it was cool. Then at the end of 11th grade i started to look for a third gen because i couldn't afford a first gen. At the end of 12th grade i found 89 ta with 305 TPI, 700r4 and 2.7 limited slip. Bought it and as usual found a lot of problems the first week i owned it. It was a graduation present to my self. Now going to college and i still like the stealth but taking the t/a with me. My plans are lsx for both cars lol. Maybe if i manage to get a degree and a good job five years later the dream will come true, as of for now my 89 t/a is going to stay stock
as for pictures i got a video:

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
Back in 7th grade I got an 83 for 500, me and my dad rebuilt the motor and trany...It was ugly as hell, and needed work all over besides the motor and trans...had that untill I was 16, traded it for an 87 S-10 with a four banger and 4 spd. Got a lease because my parents were scared for me driving that truck in the Michigan winters.... Then found my current 84 camaro for 1500 bucks not too long ago 305 TPI which is deffienetly not original I'll be a senior this year, and the body work needs to get done, quickly however it's hard when i'm the only one working on it....Wheres the overhaulin crew when I need them....

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
I got lucky-- like movie cliche kinda lucky lol... I got my license during the summer after 10th grade and had a 1996 s10 2-door Blazer 4x4, loved that thing to death and had it through 12th grade... than after the accident i had sold it and nobody knew, i just told my friends i had a surprise... so the last couple weeks before exams i was riding the bus to school. Than when final exams started and it was open parking in the lot, i got one of my friends to keep a spot open for me, and after the first exam let out (i only had the second exam of the day when exams started) rolled up to school in my camaro, and security gave me a ticket for smoking up entering the school lol... yea, I finished my high school career with a bang!

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
Yeah, for christmas my junior year, my parents got me a 1988 sport coupe. funny story on that note lol. a buddy of mine also got a 1987 IROC. he used to give me crap all the time because I only had a "sport coupe" and he had a "Z28". but he shut up real quick when i popped the hood and he saw a 305 TPI the previous owner rebuilt with a 350 cam and flat-top pistons...he was like how did you get the same engine as me?!?!?! i had t tops and he didn't, and i'll never ever forget the first day i drove it to school in the morning, it was nice enough and i had the tops out, everyone stopped staring at his car and stared at mine! lol good times. me and an old friend used to do burnouts and stuff in the parking lot after school; he had a 96 firebird coupe.
i still have that car, i almost scrapped her when i got my 1991 Z28 convertible, but i had a change of heart and have decided to put her back together and fix her up, and give her to my fiancee so she has a thirdgen to drive and enjoy just as i do.
but boy, to have that convertible back in school...oh man the girls would have loved it....

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
I'm class of 09' I bought my 92 RS when I was a freshman. All of sophmore year i had it in the schools auto shop. Because of that car all the shop kids know who I am especailly because my teacher use to let me "test" out the car in the lot....i usually did some nice burnouts and sliding her around turns after flyin through the parking lot. I get my lisence this november and senior year im dropping in my supercharged 383 stroker. As of right now it sucks watching all the kids racing down the road as their leaving school, but my day will come soon.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
This thread is hilarious... Every highschool had "that kid" with that third-gen, everyone knows somebody or can remember back that sick bastard burning out and crap in the parking lots and stuff. That kid was me
My first car was a real dog but I loved the girl to pieces... it was a 1982 turbodiesel mercedes 300D. 472,XXX miles on it when I totaled it and she had about 300,000 more miles left in her. Ran the thing on stolen vegetable oil from the bakery I worked at, yum..
Saved up working my *** off at the local bakery for minimal wage, finally got my 1991 Firebird Trans-am WS6 in january of my senior year. Man was that a good year... The races, the meets, cruise nights, hanging out at the Quick Chek and 711 with everyone, how everyone loved my car and knew me for it, fastest car except for the kid who's mommy bought him some pre-riced crap, the burnouts in the school lot, the girlfriend
I'll admit though, the one part of highschool owning that car that I wasn't crazy about, was the back seat. Come on!
Still have my car today and will never sell it for anything. Ever.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
I was close to getting a 3rd gen, but wound up with a 1995 V6 'bird my sophomore year.
My parents wouldn't let me have a 3rd gen because they thought they were too "old" at the time (this was in 1999...ugh). I was very grateful for the bird (I put in part of the cost) but grew tired of it when I started college. The day it hit 90k miles I totaled it in a really bad storm on the freeway. It wasn't until last year that I got my first 3rd gen.
A couple I did get to look at were a 1990 Formula (TBI 305, 59k miles) and 1989 Iroc (auto..thats all i knew). I'm still wanting an Iroc and hope to get one someday.

Re: Did u have a thirgen in highschool?
Well here's the epic tale of my 92 camaro....
As a present for graduating 8th grade(going into high school without to many problems with the law and teachers.) My dad gave me the keys to a basketcase El Camino. I worked on it for about 1 1/2 years and completely turned it around. However, then I got my temps. My mom was afraid to let me drive the "v8". She knew how my dad was and didn't want me to end up like him. So she talked it over with my dad and they decided(well she decided at least) that I wouldn't be able to drive my unsafe 78 el camino. MAN WAS I BUMMED!!!!! After all that work and just waiting for the day I could ride up to New Berlin West and race all the civics and integras my firend's parents had bought for them. Well, after weeks of looking for a car (my mom looking at Hondas,Saturns, and Kia's) I thought my fate was sealed. But one day while I was at work she told me to take my break and come with her to look at a car I think I would like. I remebered thinking " oh great, I get to drive a METRO!!"
After what seemed to be the longest drive of my life, we ended up at this house way out in the suburbs and there it was. The most beautiful car I had ever seen. With a price tag of $3,700 I knew it was mine. The only "flaw" of the car was the hood did not pop and it was a v6. Well, i took care of the hood immediatly and well as we speak I'm taking care of the v6. (Remember earlier in the story when I said my elco had a v8 :-) !!!) I drove the car for two years and had my share of dings and dents you seem to get with a first car, but when I graduated high school in 2006, At my senior awards banquet it won coolest car and I won most likely to become a mechanic. Needless to say I was proud of the mighty burnout I did when i left that place! but in closing, The only way I'll get rid of that car, is when they pull it from my cold dead fingers....or when someone wants to trade for a 57 chevy :-).

I bought my camaro in November of 2004, my sophomore year. I got my license a few months afterwards in January of 05. A lot of people were talking to me about it the first few months I had it but I think most of my hype was killed when another kid also got a camaro. Then a month or so after that some rich kid got a brand new 05 mustang so that was the end of my short-lived popularity. I never got any phone numbers either or asked for rides. I just graduated this year too.

I bought a '84 Z28 with 305H.O., 5speed, and 4 wheel discs back in 1991 when I was a sophmore. Car was hit in the rear quarter panels. Had the quarters pulled, added '85 up ground effects, painted car blue metallic, added a Daytona hood, and had the first set of "Hammer" wheels in town on this thing. The chicks loved this car. At the time it would almost keep up with a stock Mustang. Man, that was fun times.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
I got my 92 Firebird in Feb of my junior year for 1500. It was beat up. Needed tons of body work and the interior was just about shot. I've been working on it for a while now. I got 2 T/A fenders put on, been working on the nose for a while now doing repairs. I still have to start on the interior work, custom door panels, and dash pad. My woman is working on new seats right now for me. Lucky man I am. I did drive it to school a few times when I first got it, made sure to leave it real dirty so nobody would see all the horrible things that needed to be fixed. I have faith that by the time the end of this school year finishes I can leave a fat black streak all the way across my school parking lot...maybe a brown streak in my pants too.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
It was 11'oclock at night on ft stewart army base. The "lemon lot" as we called it was dimly lit and foggy. We were in a 1992 or so Ford van riding clean ... oh yea. I had a fetish for square bodied 80's muscle cars at the time and had tried talking my dad into buying me many 5.0 mustangs only to be rejected. But this night was different. I saw the beautiful blue paint glistining in that dim streetlight. We stopped in the lot and looked at many cars but the 89 Iroc Z caught my eye. $3500 Marked the window and my hopes fell...I can't afford that and I know the parents aren't going to go for it...but something told me to take down the number. The next day I told my parents about the car and they said they'd take a look at it. I sat in school that day for what seemed like years only to go home to the face of defeat. "That thing is a big POS. It smokes, the engine knocks, and its rusted out...we can't get it." That had to be one of the saddest moments of my life... The next day I went to school...it was a normal day...the bus ride home was loud and annoying like usual...but something was waiting in my driveway...That was it...my blue beauty...the Iroc sat gleaming in the sun. I basically ran over all the sluggish kids in the way to touch the smooth paint. It was great. My dad had fooled me and bought it for me since my sister had wrecked 3 cars they got her. They got it for $2800 Dark blue w/a light flake. A new 305 HO sat under the hood just broken in with 35,000. I was in bliss. I spent over $2500 dollars repairing everything that was wrong...every stain, rip, and dent. I had just got my stock iroc wheels painted...they were sitting in my garage awaiting intstallation when it happened. A drunk driver was going 70 or so in a 40 mph zone and t boned me. The car was bent in half completely...I was distraught...I had thoughts of killing the man that had taken my first love from me...but here I am. I have owned many cars since her..but nothing could ever take her place. I now own a 92 RS with a 305...not nearly in the condition of my iroc, but it feels right sitting in the f body...fate would have it this way it seems.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
Well, 3rdGen cars came out 5 years later than my high school days... but I did have a 2ndGen - a Gold '71 Espirit in high school. Does that count?
By the end of college I'd had 2 other 2nd gens, a '71 TA and a 78 TA. Lots of fun!

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
Here goes fellas.... My parents in 87 bought me my first car. I was 17 and a junior in high school. There were a lot of other kids with IROCs that beat me and made fun of my sport coupe. My Camaro was a 305 4 barrell 700 r4. I HAVE HAD IT 20 YEARS NOW! Everyone who made fun of my car, either has wrapped them around poles or sold em. NOT ME. Major changes have happened in these years. The first 13 yrs were trouble free, with 175,000 miles. in 1997 I bought a crashed 89 IROC for 1,700.00 and frankensteined it all together. Took 2 yrs. But now I realize after keeping this car for that long that this car wont leave my hands until their cold!!!! Now I have everything I want in it, besides a T56. The similarity I read all the time is that everyone regrets selling their highschool car. I'm glad not to be in that cateory.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
I bought my first car, a 1987 camaro, when I was 15. I put a lot of money into it and tragically, I totaled it on Xmas eve back in 1995 from a drunk driver cutting me off. I miss that car so much. I ended up buying a 1989 GTA a few months later. I totaled that car one night when I hit black ice and rolled it over a few times down a hill into the woods. after I got out of high school, I bought a 1991 Z28 with 30K miles on it with the money I got from a settlement from the drunk driving accident. I bought a 4th gen ONCE. It was a 1997 WS6 TA. I hated it and sold it and bought the current car Ihave now. I have always had an fbody since I have been driving.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
I hated working on it. The engine was under the windshield and you couldnt do anything to that car w/o the SES light coming on. I bought that car with under 17K on it and the SES was always on for something stupid. I just got sick of dealing with it. So, I sold it and bought my second 91z28 and couldnt be happier. my life is complete now that I have a 3rd gen.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
I got an 86 Camaro Sport Coupe 2.8 5-speed when I was a Junior in high school (94-95.) Wow, it's been a long time. I had that car for 6 years and beat the crap out of it everyday. It kept going and going, finally it started knocking. I sold it really cheap, after I did the mechanic that works on my father in law's office's cars told me he'd have given me a engine and swapped it out for 850 bucks. I had already sold it and bought a POS 90 Nissan Stanza for 1600 bucks. I was mad but I had already sold it. Here is a pic. I found it on Cardomain. I never took a picture of my 86, but this one is identical down to the rims, except I didn't have a Bra on it.
I miss it.
I miss it.
