rust repair in wheel wells
Has anyone had to repair rust holes in their rear wheel wells? Or has anyone replaced the rear wheel wells? Do you know where to order new ones? In a few months I plan to cut out or band-aid the suckers one way or another while the car is in the garage for winter hibernation.
Thanks.
Thanks.

While you might be able to "band-aid" the rusty areas without removing the quarter panel, you absolutely have to remove the quarter in order to install a complete wheelwell piece. In all likelihood, the wheelwell is rusty in places that you can't see. I'd definitely recommend replacing the entire panel (or at least the bottom half behind the rear tire). Either way, this necessitates quarter panel removal.
Chances are, if your wheelwells are rusty, your quarter panels are too. Don't skimp on the repair--those band-aid repairs will come back to haunt you. If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then get a body shop to do it for you. As someone who tried to do it myself, and then worked at a body shop later, I can promise you that most bodymen can have the repair finished before you ever break out the tools to get started. Good luck!

That is one huge problem. A few years ago I paid a shop to replace the rear quarters and patch some holes in my floor boards. I bought the quarters, he replaced, and painted them with no mention of eaten up wheel wells. From what we can tell the pin holes mainly exist (from what we can see) in the upper portion of the area. When I asked a local salvage yard about cutting the wheel wells from a donor car they said I had to buy the quarters too ... a waste of money to me if I already have replacement good ones, do you know what I mean?

The shop definitely should've replaced the wheelwells during the quarter panel repair. I can kind of understand the junkyard's p.o.v. about wanting to sell you quarters with the wheelhouses. You're gonna have to completely remove the quarter panel on a parts car just to get the wheelhouse. And as such, you're gonna have to completely remove the quarters off of your car if you want to replace the wheelhouses. Man, why didn't the other shop replace those pieces with the quarter panels?!
