Wet Sand after final clear coat

How long should you wait after applying the final clear coat before you wet sand in preparation for glaze and wax?

I plan on wet sanding with 1000 and then 1500. Then using 3M Imperial hand glaze.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Think I waited a couple days before going at mine. I'd suggest using one more compound though that has a bit more bite then finish off with the hand glaze. Waxing I wouldn't do till after 2-3 months, you need to let the paint breath a bit while it cures.

Thank you. What other compound would you use and how would you apply it? Also, should it come after the hand glaze?

3M's Perfect it II rubbing compound. It's made to take out the sand scratches left from 1200 - 2000 grit paper. If you were to put it on after the hand glaze, you'd be working backwards. The hand glaze is to get rid of any swirl marks left behind. Do you have a buffer of any sorts? They recommend using a foam pad with the rubbing compound. Take a look through 3M's site and they have all kinds of info there.

Thank you, mister. I'll get a buffer.

How did your car turn out? I was reading your post about it.

Sorry...I didnt see that you wrote "then finish with the glaze." Sorry for the redundant question.

I waited a week after painting mine then wet sanded it, used the 3m perfect II, then the mcguires #9 swirl remover. Wait like mentioned above 2 - 3 months before waxing.

I've heard a lot of people using the mcguires diamond cut.

i used the perfect-it III on my car. Also waited around a month before wetsanding that way the clear coat was hardened and I was able to use a razor blade horizontally to the debris in the paint to knock it out. Hard to explain if you haven't ever seen it done before

It's a lot less work if you don't let the clear harden so much.

MetalliCamaro68, I haven't painted the car yet. Going to be doing some more body work on it today and hope to start blocking out some high build primer.

Nice car, real stout looking.
