If it were me I'd probably sit back and take a long break at this point. Thats a lot of work and heart and soul to pour into something you end up having to chop up.
He will be back eventually.

Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
why was it cut up?
we have seen cars with cancer to the door handles, get fixed, and better than new.
so one of two things is going on here, there was a problem with the title, (stolen) did not realize it tell he was done.
Or he just double posting trying to get the longest thread.
Maybe I'm missing something here?

whats odd is why not just cut the whole subframe out and replace with a c5, c6, or viper components... wouldn't cost more than a whole new car. but hey whatever not my car or money!

Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
well maybe the cars owner feels that if the car has a subframe from something else it wouldn't really be a camaro anymore, i could see that if you change every component on a car possible, its still that car as per the registration, if it was a franken car then it wouldn't be anyone thing and idk if ya could register it, but true he could do so many things with it if he had the time and money, when will he post again with progress? i wonder

Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
Neil told me that there were other issues besides hidden rust and weak/flexing body points that would have to be fixed. Basically it would be cheaper to mod a solid shell than to fix and re-mod the old body. Good call IMO.
But, on the bright side, most of the fab work and wiring etc.. is already completed and will be a direct bolt-on for the new shell. He's just going to have some more of his hours dumped into re-installation.

Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
it wasnt so much a rust issue as far as i know, but more of a structural rigidity issue because of a bad repair job in the cars past, they were more worried more about twisting the subframe with all that motor, then rotting floors, ya know?

So he was done ok.... still not reading over 2k of posts lol I read the first 200 and went to sleep. Its funny that this is like the build I want to do with the doors motor trans intake but with 3rd gen guts I don't like 4th gens guts. Thanks guys for letting me know I knew I was wrong. Everything I can think of doing to a 3rdgen has been done in some way, viper v10, envoy I6, d max, and so on I wanna see a awd not on a blazer body. Oh I have never seen a mid engine camaro v8 with the hatch glass showing the motor like a ferrari 360 spider

Sorry to hear Neil but you can keep your chin high and wear the hat of pride knowing you built one of the BADDEST *** threads in third gen history. Lots of great insight, imagination, passion, and most of all, effort went into this thing. Sometimes they end up this way. Cant say I havent been there myself before as im sure a lot of others have too.
Failing aint the falling down, its the staying down. Theres a cold beer or 20 in my fridge for ya anytime your in my area.
Hope im wrong on that but if Im not? Just saying what I feel needs saying. Respect is lacking badly these days and I always give credit, where credit is due

hes probably frustrated and heart broken, i understand, relate his feelings and his situation to that of eric bana in "love the beast" he built his ultimate amazing car that he loved, and it met with a tragic end, hes sad, hes mad, hes confused, he doesn't know what to do now, hes lost his passion and desire to build it again or to fix it, it will take time but he will respond, he will come back, i do not believe hes forsaken the project, it will live again........................................................................... also if noones seen love the beast you can watch it here, and i recommend you do its a great flick, lets you see hes a real car guy and one of us (even though its a ford) you'll understand what neils going through when you see it

No, no, no, NO!
I've just spent the past 3 days at work and home reading this entire thread and not to have a happy ending sucks. You could seriously make a movie of this thread. I didn't see the pics of the car cut up but it's just as well, I would have cried.
What would make the story better would be to come back with a vengeance, but don't sell the parts.
We can rebuild it. We have the technology to build it stronger, better, faster.

Doesnt surprise me that he would move to a second gen. After something this heartbreaking.... its hard to do the exact same thing all over again. At least with a second gen he doesnt have that constant pang of heartbreak as he rebuilds it. A second gen is a clean sheet.
Unfortunately, Im pretty sure the thirdgen would outhandle it on a track, ESPECIALLY his thirdgen. Those first gens can be made to handle really well, but our cars stock can give heavily modded first/second gen cars a VERY hard time in the twisties.
Its a movie every car guy should watch. Very cool.

Very cool.
