Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
Hey guys, well I will have new video when I get the brake lights assembled and functioning. Today I finally recevied the smoked red and smoked clear (reverse) lenses from KLEARZ. Let me tell you, this guys stuff is quality and very well done! I will post pics this weekend as I start getting the LED boards from Spaghetti Engineering positioned and installed in the housings AND get the lenses laid out as well. Since my brake light housings were modified by the body shop I will have to build-up the back of both housings to strengthen them a bit (the pics will show you where I am talking about).
Once the brake lights are working, i'll then hopefully have the car over to John's shop (American Race Components) to fabricate the cold/ram air induction system with air filter box and also strut tower brace, radiator fan shroud and other little odds and ends. Then, i'll get this thing out on the street and have some video for you

the only reason to ask is if you were planning to buy it from him, and it kinda like, if you have to ask... you cant afford it
neil,
one thing i am not sure about is using the spaghetti engineering LED bulb kit
if you have the time, you would be much better off to make your own.
not totally dissing their product, but on a un-modified camaro they look decent... on yours, it would be like a two yr old coming over to do your pin striping with a crayola crayon.
you could at least send the lenses to someone who could do a custom job and be miles ahead in quality IMO
oh, and c-mon man, lets see some vids
ill even GIVE YOU MY CAMERA if thats what it takes...
jk but seriously, great looking car.

kool car possibly the most modified thirdgen, i've ever seen! Beautiful, should be a lot of fun.
i now have to go pay attention to my girl as i've spent the past 3 nights reading almost this entire 38 pages word for word. beautiful product. i hope to someday perfect my skills enough to do work like that entirely by myself ,but someday is a long way aways for sure.

Hey guys, I am still around and not in the "sexy car protection program" LMAO!!! I plan on taking a few photos and posting in a few days. Having the air box (air filter) system fabricated, custom strut tower brace (the BMR STB I purchase won't work with this intake) and also rad fan shroud.
I have been soooo busy at work, so i'll update you guys shortly!

Sorry to keep you guys waiting so long, but now have updated pics of the recent additions
First, the custom/super-tight-fit strut tower brace has finally taken shape. Rod ends bolt into each strut tower and each of the welded-in ends on each strut tower will be gusseted to increase strength (not gusseted in pics). Also, on each end of the STB, smaller supports will bolt into the frame rails to tie in the front end and make it pretty tight structurally.

Here are pics of the vertical supports connecting the frame rails to the STB.
The last pic in this series is of the new timing mark pointer which replaced my filed down bolt. My fabbed timing pointer obvioulsy sucks in comparison to the one John made.

The pics below are of the relocated coli brackets which John actually made 1st, since my car has been back at his shop. These brackets will have a cover to sheild the coils from radiant header/engine heat and the spark plug wires will now run under the headers for a nice clean look So, now I have to buy another set of universal Taylor wires to cut to length. Also, I can now remove the coil relocation brackets from the valve covers, which are awesome in construction and design, but they cover up too much of my intake, so they are coming off and will sell them along with the wires.

Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
Now the biggest and most important piece, the air filter box plenum or airbox, however you want to call it. The big dilemma here was to get dual 3" pipes and the airbox plenum to fit under the hood. After a while of head scatching the choices made were to cut out the upper and lower radiator supports and fab new ones which lowered the radiator approx. 3.5" thus allowing more room for the airbox and tubes to the throttle body. After all this work, the plenum still hits the underside of the hood, so the hood has to be cut and will out an area large enough to clear the airbox setup as well as cut completely through the hood in front of the fake intake vent. The plan is to have clear lexan cover that area in front of the hood "vent" which would expose the tubes to the throttle body.
These pics show the mock up using card board where the airfilters will approximately be. The air filter dimensions for each filter are 7.6" x 12.8" and provide a total filter area of approximately 160 sq. in. The recommended filter area for this engine setup is 152 sq. in. so we are good to go.

Now, using aluminum, John is mocking up pieces to see how everything would fit and to see the clearance when the hood is closed. The plastic bumper/front end support had to be removed in areas to allow for clearance of the filter housing

More of the airbox mock up inside and out.
I have had trouble finding a silicone coupler for the throttle body with an internal diameter of 5.75", not being able to find it in silicone, I will try to use a 5.62" internal dia rubber hose and see if it will stretch over the TB.

Another pic of what will be the inside area of the air box plenum and a section of the hood which has already been cut out and more will be cut once the airbox is all setup up.

Wow, Almost 4 years into it. I checked out the last 8 pages and it looks sickk. The intake looks cool. I wonder how well it's going to work. I haven't seen anything like that before. Good job

that is one heck of a strut brace. very well fabbed and good mounting points.
how hard is it to get on and off?
pics are deceiving.
are those TWO ls1 style filters?
crazy man. lookin damn near perfect.

Well, with a little twisting the STB should slide out fairly easily. The air filter is actually from a Pontiac Grand Am and as you can see I am using two

Are those vertical supports indirectly going to prevent the fore-aft movement the strut towers see?
