I haven't looked at this thread for sometime. OMG WOW. this car is going to be the Badest 3rd gen out there. What are the plans for it SEMA? If no that is were it will belong. Very nice that is for sure and most the work has been done in your garage. I can't wait to see the end product.

Neil, nice work on this car man! I found your post looking for pictures and help with getting 4th gen door panels in my car without having to hack the doors up and ended up completely stunned by everything you have done. Way to go! Your car is awesome! When you get everything figured out with the door panels could you please help a brother out and post some more pics? Thanks so much, below is a shot of my beastie, I've spent some time on it too, but not nearly as much as yours

oh and one other thing? I noticed a ways back in your post that you had the 2002 steering wheel and changed it out for the flaming river one. I am really looking for a nice 02 steering wheel, any chance you still have yours and might want to sell it? thanks!

Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
Updates, well, I have no new pics, but I can tell you that I spent a good hour thinking of how to route the brake and fuel lines up to the engine.....all I can tell you at this point is there is going to be some cutting happening this weekend, maybe tomorrow after work, we'll see. My plan is to cut into the frame rail and run the lines into the engine compartment that way....away from direct header heat and nice and hidden. As usual i'll take breaks to snap photos.
Also, the driveshaft is in and it fit's perfectly! Denny's did a bada$$ job! I'll have more pics for you guys this weekend and hopefully i'll have the intake manifold next week??? They said it would be finished this week, we'll see?

Making progress on the brake line installation. As I was planning, I cut a hole in the subframe and routed it into the engine compartment, here are some pics....from left ot right; hole in subframe under car (driver side), hole in frame rail in engine compartment (not the prettiest but got the job done and you wont see once the brake booster is in place) and last pic is the tapping tool to make 10-32 threads for the brake line bracket bolts.

and more pics....this tool is very convenient in that you can flare the line on the car, love it! Also, added stainless spring to sections of line that are somewhat exposed. In the area in front of the lower control arm I will have to make a steel cover to protect the brake and fuel line (which will follow the same path). Also, I will install line clamps to secure the line in that area.

and a couple more...So, the throttle body is very similar in appearance to our factory TPI throttle bodies, though it's larger..twin 75mm, the same throttle body used on the Ford GT. Now, i'll have to figure out the TPS wiring and IAC......super! What was I thinking????

ooo those manifolds are sweeet! you would think that for all that $ they could make tps and iac provisions and put the linkage on the driver side (assuming you still need it there). i would think the tps and iac wiring would come in the safm kit.
nice buildup btw!

I am going to try and locate the coils down on the frame rails (across from the headers) with some aluminum heat sheilds i'll fab up. Not sure exactly how this will work, but that is the picture I have in my head at the moment.

Neil, I'll have to show you how Jim and I did the white '61 Impala. We put the coil packs on the frame rails standing up (4 on each side) with custom brackets we fabbed in the shop....
Intake looks killer!
However, you're not going to be able to use the air-box on top of the intake (fed through the side) design like we talked about for your air intake.... The intake is too tall and I don't know where to get 7 in. mandrel pipe to mate up to your TB! You are going to have to run dual 3 1/2 in. pipes scaloped and welded in the center to make your 7 inches. Then connect it with a 7 in. silicone coupler (similar to what Jim built for the blue '55). Picture the SLP dual pipe cold-air kit for a Thirdgen Firebird, only dual 3 1/2 in. mandrel pipes instead of plastic....

Neil, did santa bring that video camera you been wishing for?
Also, there isn't going to be any clearance issues between the intake and wiper motor are there?
Just wondering cuz they look pretty close in the pics?

LOL, I might have to .....naaaa, i'll make it work. The other side is going to be more difficult..as it stands now, there is no way I can install or remove the pass side valve cover with the A/C box in place. So, will have to do some cutting and "re-shaping", but i'll leave that project til after I get ti running!

intake looks like a pontoon boat crash. in a good way.
no doubt, hogan made it, it should perform.
are you going to be able to push the wiper connector in place with the intake installed?
im sure its not as close as it looks in the pics.
what cam was in the motor? too many pages and too much reading. im forgetful.

Regarding the wiper motor, all I will do today is move it closer to the firewall as for the connections, well, that will be a PITA! i'll figure it out later.....like Timmys89GTA said I just won't drive in the rain!

(yes I know it's an 87 but the 82 picture was more dramatic.)
My next question is where is the air filter cover that we can flip to give you an extra 5-10 hp???

Holy crap Neil! That motor set up looks killer!!! I cant wait to hear how that thing runs.
I like how you ran your brake lines. I have plans to make a custom fuel line for my car as opposed to using the modified 4th gen lines. I want to run it into the chassis rail once it gets up front because right now, my header is VERY close to the line in a few spots. I figure the fuel moves through fast enough to not heat up too much...but Ide like to do it anyway.
Thanks for the pics, now I have a couple ideas on where to come out in the engine bay. Are you just going to run a soft fuel line up to the fuel rail? Or will you have the line from the tank come up into the engine bay to a hard mounting point, then run a soft line up to the fuel rail...sorta like the stock 4th gen set up.
J.

I like how you ran your brake lines. I have plans to make a custom fuel line for my car as opposed to using the modified 4th gen lines. Re: Phase I done, Phase II-interior almost done, and now Phase III-drivetrain (454 LS
I finally cleaned all 16 pushrods and installed the Jesel J2K shaft mount rockers. When I measured for pushrod length, the intake measured 8.000" and the exhaust measured 7.950" in length. Both are very close and I could have gone with all 8.000"; however, Jesel recommends the ideal setting for the rocker arm adjuster cup to be 1 full turn from the outer most seated position.....so, to achieve this slightly different length pushrods for intake and exhaust valves were ordered.
Tomorrow night, back to front brake line routing...still waiting for clips and ss braided flex line to arrive. This weekend, will start running the fuel line.

Where you at with the wiring? Have you figured out if you are going with the FAST or Big3? And if, so, are you going with a stand alone system or a splice in system to tie into the LS-1 harness?
I couldn't find you a chrome intake valley-pan. If you don't want to paint one, we have a good chrome shop down here.

Thanks for looking but don't worry about the LS1 valley cover, I check my LSX block spec packet and I need to use an LS7 valley cover which only has a provision for the oil pressure sender and not the knock sensors. The knock sensor (I will be using only 1) will be mounted on the side of the block (similar to the TPI motors)...that is actually what they are doing on all new LS based engines.
I can get the LS2/LS7 valley cover (p/n 12570471) for $115.
i'll probably just paint the valley cover since you see so little of it. Not much to see.

Since the rest of the factory harness will not be plugged into the sensors (the DFI will), then you will probably have to pull the service engine light out of the cluster.....
I drove mine the other day for the 1st time in 3 or 4 months! Was fun, I missed driving it.... You must be DYING to take a spin in yours, it's been what like 2 years??

Well, the SES won't be hooked up, so it can stay in the cluster.
Hell yeah I want to drive it.....this is a true test of my patience!
