Axle/Gears: huh?? guessing stock.
is it possibly trying to pul the hatch down to far? I know its a pain, but so is having to replace the assembly if it breaks. you might want to readjust it so that it wont completely close, and see if it still makes the noise. if the noise is gone you know that it was adjusted down to far. slowly adjust it a bit at a time untill you get a good seal but it is not putting to much strain onthe moter and its housing.

I found this out the hard way. dont want you to have to if it is your issue as well.

Ot may be what I fear damaged mine. Check the switch that is supposed to shut off the motor when it reaches the end of travel.

i just replaced my entire assembly of the pull down motor, ive never had a working one ever since i bought the car 2 years ago, but it makes a moaning sound the entire time its pulling down, i dont think that is anything out of the ordinary, doesnt seem to be trying to pull down too much, not sure about the clicking though, does it click the whole time?
