new to body work...lol

I am working on an 84 Trans Am that took a hit in the front...I'll post a couple of pics...but anyway...the bracket that the bumber is all jacked up...well bent and I don't know how or if I can fix this myself....
just give me some input
P.S....I picked this car up at a very good price...it has the functional scoop on it and all the goodies inside...and not even 100k miles on it...the interior is still good except the driver seat...oh well...Oh and I happened across a formula hood with the buldge (non functional)that I can put my stuff in..bought it for $50...I thought it was a good deal huh...

I've got the same problem with the impact bar mounting points. Here's a picture of mine. Not sure whether to let a body shop do that, seeing as I have some other minor issues to take care of, or try to fix it myself.

Best course of action would be major frame repair by a shop with proper jigs

If you were me Id half the car

You need:
Crashed car
Donor car with good front frame
Unwrecked "Good car" to take measurements from
Saw-zall
Welder
Extra lil metal plates

Strip all the good/bad parts off the front frame till the damage is gone
Id prolly go 1" behind the radiator support

Measure to make the cut marks (big masking tap and a marker works well)
Cut the old off
Measure and mark the donor but cut it several inches longer
Now fit the new frame and make it flare a lil and overlap the old frame
Duct tape it in rough place
Measure and drill screws in final locations (hold it till welding)
Weld up
Now the repairs will never be as strong as they were from the factory
All the cars I repaired like this I welded additional plate steel around the cuts out of sight for peace of mind

If you ever sell the car you MUST tell of such repairs or you could get into legal trouble

Good luck to you

working in a collision shop i would not try such repairs as you have both shown...

for one there is the legal issue...not just if you sell the car but if your in an accident you could go to jail for that sort of butcherty...on new unibody cars it is illigal to section a frame rail...you must replace the hole thing...and on these cars that also means the strut tower/inner fennder...

two it looks like the fender on the red car is kinked and pushed back into the door on the passenger side...this could mean one of two things...one just the fender is kinked and no good...or two the hole frame rail is pushed back and will need heavy pulls to pull it back in line...and make it safe to drive

three...with no experiance you could easly damage another part of the unidody which would indanger anyone in the car or you could majorly hurt your self while trying to repair the car.

if i were you i would stop in and ask you local body shop if they would be willing to fix the car...it may seem like alot of money at first...but those guy are proffesionals and when you get the car back it will be rite...and should anything ever happin to the car you will not be at fault for any of the repairs...there is also the posibility of branding in your area...and if the car is branded the body shop will most not touch the car unless they have done the work....be carfull in what ever you choose...when cars get in heavy colliosions like that you can get in to big trouble even when you do everything rite...

im not trying to pick on you or anyone one else but a unidody car is a totally diff can of worms the a full frame car and laws and insurance company really dont like ppl to mess with them beacuse of the way they are built and the way they react in accidents...

good luck with your car and if you can get it all fixed up it looks like a real good deal!

If u wanna save cash atleast take it to a body shop and have them get everything back into specs. Than u can do the rest of the work your self.

I would not section a new front end on for a little hit like that.

Yeah,I looked at the hit a little closer and that metal is real thin that holds the bumper and (if you had the tools) would be easily fixed...So once I get it running right It is deffinatly going to my buddies shop...
If I had to section it I would sell it...Its not worth all that to me...
