82 up firebird hood latch reinforcement fix
I don't know if anyone has done this but I'm sure lots of you early bird owners like me have had the hood latch pan crack to the sides of the hood latch assembly.
While at the local pick-a part I came across a 91-92 firebird with a brace that bolts to the radiator support and the hood latch, I took a chance that it would fit my 82 trans am and it fit perfectly.
This modification takes about 15 minutes to do and drastically strengthens the hood latch pan area. I doubt with this brace cracking of the pan will occur again.
I will post pictures of this brace when I get a chance.

Yup, I just picked one up recently. It was actually earlier. Mine is an 85 and does not have it but I have seen some 86/87/88's with them in the wrecking yards. Obviously they realized that was a problem.

I just noticed that this brace existed this past week. My 84 had fractured in the corners and I had another piece from another 84 that also fractured... then i looked at the piece I have from an 88 firebird and saw the reinforcing brace. The later cars benefitted from a number of extra braces that the early cars didn't get, including additional mounting points for the dash assembly. I'll just add them to my 84 as I find out about them
