This is some scary stuff lol, any tips on how to repair it? Im thinking that im either going to try and use a dolly and hammer, or buy a uni spotter. Or do you guys think it would be better to just replace the panel?
Also it lookes alot better in the pics than it dose in real life lol.

if you're gonna do it yourself save yourself the time, money, and swearing...just replace the pannel. lol. seriously. All the pounding and reshaping of such a large area is going to weaken the metal. and you'd still have to use more filler in the area than you'd really want when you go to paint it again. I replaced a quarter on a camaro once about 3 or 4 years ago...it took me 3 days but it wasn't as hard as it seemed, just be patient, make sure you get everything lined up right...then beat the crap out of the old pannel with a big wrench for causing you so much frustration.

jdezzy is right on top of it.. save the time and trouble.. replace the bad panel, much less work in the long run, it will take some time to cut and weld but believe me it will save you the trouble of wishing you'd just replaced it instead of trying to fight it and straighten that much metal

and just where is he supposed to get a GM full replacement quarter panel?
I searched and searched a couple years ago for a customer's car and there just ain't any available.

best bet is to go to the junk yard and use a decent resiprocating saw to take a section off a wreck
doesnt even need the full quarter, could easily take more than he needs and be smart about making a template, cut both the same and weld back together

he could get one from a junkyard pretty cheap, not hard to find a decent one. Or he could go to yearone.com, part# H57LH($428).

Quite frankly our cars are so cheap at this time I would just trash the car and get a good roller or runner rather then spend that much time/effort/cash on it.

That's one way of working it...it's possible to piece these cars out and make a load more cash out of it then what you actually paid for it...All depends on the emotional attachments that a person has...I actually enjoy rebuilding these cars. Makes the car more valuable to you in the end.

And you are certain that the year one Quarters are FULL quarter panels...sail panels and all?
When I looked for my customer, all that was availabe was the skin. And that only goes up to the belt.
Edit: I would definitely not just patch in the sail panel.
Also, what are the chances of a rust free quarter in a junk yard in Canada.

That may be... And at $428.00, it damn well should be. I'm quite certain that they were not available at that time. (I think they were out of stock.)
Carter, is there any more rust around the wheel opening or anything?
I'm not sure I'd compromise the rest of the panel without at least trying to bump it, but I do this for a living...the layperson may not want to spend as much time. It is just mild steel and heat shrinking the stretched panel may be a better solution.

as for me finding a full quarter with the said im going to go to .:AVID T's AUTO CENTER::.
its not that far from me, also about the car haveing any value, it has very little $$$ value but it means alot to me, so im going to fix it, i dont care how much time and money it takes.

I understand the economics behind the get a new body thing, but I also understand the emotional side of it all. I had a helluva time trying to refit a front end and make it look half decent after a moderate accident, but I feel great looking at it now knowing I made that work.

I live in ohio...3rd gens are all over the junk yards. The yard I always go to is owned by an old friend of my moms so he keeps a lot of them around for me to piece apart. and it is soooo hard to find any good pieces. everybody junks these cars up around here and just drive them until the rust eats through the car...then just trash them. But, on the flip side...because they're so plentiful the parts(when you find good ones...)are really cheap.

Dave Worshils junk yard. North canton ohio on mahoning road. good place and fair prices. Don't let them get the part for you though. just tell them you'll go into the yard and get it. that way you can go from car to car and choose the one you want. they'll just go to the first one they see and get it regardless of condition.

i think the car has more show value if you do it all yourself use a hammer and dolly ,also if you dont want to weld in them rust holes sand around them to bare metal and use fiberglass it will hold up and you wont be able to tell from the outside of the car that its fiberglass patch

well long time no update, after much concideration, im gunna replace both quarter panel's (theres a massive dent on the other side), and im gunna replace both the fender's, (ones rusted out, and ones all bent on the bottom), AND im going to replace the roof w/sail panels (I want T-tops anyways). I fidgured, if i bang it out, its gunnas be weak, if i replace just the panel, its gunna be weak. and it dose not appeare to be factory anyways (the weld connecting the roof and sail panel is REALY sloppy. I have got a local body shop thats gunna sell me all the needed panels (besides the sail/roof) for around 450.00 CND. so time for some fun

ok, not alot has happened, I work to much >.<, well anyways, the panels are ordered, cost me a whole $385.00 cnd. fenders and the old noze it off, same with the rear bumber and impact bar, not finding anything i already didnt know, besides the hole in my door, meh anyways heres some quick pics.

I would seriously consider finding a good hull and swapping the goodies into it. The old saying "Rust Never Sleeps" is NOT and urban legend. My family has been running body shops since 1929 (My grandfather painted the very first enamel paint job for Ford Motor Company).
You can never stop the corrosion process on large panels.
All cars have some body filler from the factory. You can see where the top was mated to the 1/4 panel in one picture. They mate it, weld it, and fill it.

Yet another update
well, 3 of 4 panels arrived, the pasanger fender was bent, so there getting a new one, FINALLY found a roof at the local picknpull, had lots of fun taking it off with a hacksaw, got the roof, and all the trim, and a headliner, for 40.00 cnd, sadly it was missing the tops, got the roof welded on, hope to get the quarters on soon. Here have some pics ^_^, and yes, these pictures are a horrible quality, my camera is a pos..

Not to **** all over your fix, but I hope you researched it before cutting those pillars off. You absolutely DO NOT just hack the pillars off and weld a new roof on. The inner and outer have to be offset, or you lose the strength. ESPECIALLY in a structural part. The rear looks like it may be right, not sure without looking at the car in it's dis-assembled state. You also need to make sure there are enough new welds to compensate for cutting off the old.

Wow nice work. Your first quarter shot looks like the previous owner hit the quarter with a hammer just to see how much **** he could cover up with bondo... All this is the reason I looked at 10 camaros/ta's a bought one with no rust at all. I think it was the best find I've ever snagged.

Cool, looks good. But you should of kept it a hard top T tops suck. And if you think your car has alot of bondo mine has more, about 10 inches thick. Dont hit my car a chunk of bondo will come off LMFAO!!!

Got that under control, for the pilers we cut low, and used the braces that were already on the car, and for the rear, we cut high on the frame, and low for the skin, gots it under control.

Awesome, the last thing you need is to have it come apart in an accident, or sell it and it rolls and someone dies. One last caveat, Measure, MEASURE, Measure. Measure all openings , criss cross measure. measure the windshield. pre-fit the glass, all before that welder touches the steel.
Its welded on, and I measured so many times i lost count >.<, its straight, windows fit, hatch fits, alls going as planned, if ya got any other pointers im all ears

Just a quick update, I found some tops for the roof, paid $50 cnd for them both, with the keys, get a pic tomorrow, also, got the THIRD pasanger fender in, and its again DAMAGED >.< im sick of waiting, so im going to go check the damage, and see if I can fix it.
