I stripped the bolt on backseat.....

everybody says its a 10min job to swap seats,
and I thought it'd be easy as well..

so I bought a used(mint) 30th anniversary gray cloth
seats, both front and back to replace my old torn seats..

now it was my first attempt doing this..
procedure was simple, yet tedious caz
sometime I get no space for turning my wrench etcetc
and bolt started stripping so I used vise grip etcetc..

after 2hours, I finished my front seats,
including power wiring and cleaning and vacuuming the carpet.

NOW,
I was trying to untighten the bolt on the back seat,
it sits like behind the seats in the buttom kind of,
so I kept turning my wrench without looking at the bolt.
took me couple minutes until I noticed that it wasnt going loose,
the bolt was stripped, all the way..

I used vise grip,
it just grinds out more metal out of it.. does not turn at all.
since its upside down, I can't use that flowery shape sockets for stripped bolt.. it keeps falling off!!

all I have is that one frigging bolt left.. but I played with it for hours just with that single bolt and I can't find a way to get it out.. I just made it worse and worse..

Ill thank u in advance for any advise..
and tip for removing seatbelts from backseats
are greatly appreciated too!!

The bolt actually won't turn, right? Try getting a drill and drill it out then tap&die it to get threads back.

For seatbelts, just get the right tool, socket, or whatever for the bolt or try using a flathead screwdriver

Im gonna try to drill it out,
but do u mean like using easy outs or something?
Im not too sure..
Im gonna try to destroy the bolt and force them out
thats what im gonna do
but lemmi know if there's a better way..

All the seat bolts are 13mm

Did you strip the bolt for the seat bottom or the back fold down section?

If your objective is only to get the old seat out then Id suggest cutting the bracket that holds it down and grinding the remainder off once the seat is out of the way

When I did my seats, I just took the seatbelt guides off the seat and reinstalled them on the new seat

But I agree, it is no ten minute job. Most of those seat bolts are a pain in the a$$.

If you grind anything, try to cover or protect your windows so you don't pit them.

No, I don't mean easy out. I mean taking a huge metal drill bit and drilling out the bolt then take a tap and die, and retread the hole so you can get another bolt in there. You can get a cheap tap and die set for under $30 ususually or just buy indivdual ones for much less.

cool, thanks guys!
I think I'll go drill it out now, and just find a way to secure it
with 1bolt and if I remember right not only the bolt but the seats holds onto something else too.. so that should help to
secure it in place.

This same sort of thing happened to me when i redid my seats. The lower bolt on the rear seat would just turn. after relizing that it is loose, I found that the weld had broken around that little thing nut that has the threads for the bolt, and both were turning together. After attempting needle nose vise grips and every other plier known to man I cut the head off and removed both pieces. I reinstalled a standard bolt with a nut & washers on the backside. This was still a pita, but i used tape to hold nut & washers to bracket, then once on the bolt was able to get wrench in and hold tight with 1 1/2 finger.

Hope my story is of some help. May save you from buying tap and die kit.

He said he stripped the bolt head and can't turn it which is Kind of different. Unless he broke the weld and the bolt got stuck. I had the same thing happen where i broke a weld and the bolt just spins freely.

The night before soak it with liquid wrench or WD40. I mean, soak it like there is no tommorow. Next day try with wise grips, try drilling. IF none of this works try Gatorgrip (although its really not that good). If everything else fails just get the metal cutters and cut the top of the bolt off. It should take you no longer than 1 minute.
