Wet floors, leaky something...

hey guys,
I'm new here I have a 1987 Trans Am GTA with a problem that is bothering me to no end... The last couple days it has been raining here and behind the passenger seat is wet.. We're not just talking like damp.. I took some paper towels and I almost used a whole roll to try to get all the water. I also noticed that the drivers seat was a little damp. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Like what can I do to fix this problem? It only has like 45,000 Miles.. Like common.. I guess it's just the age.. Sorry if this is a sticky or something, I tired searching it and nothing came up so I posted. Any help would be gratly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jason

Its been raining here the last couple of days too. Whats your location?

Anyway, about your problem. It would appear that your flood plugs under your rear floor pans are loose. You will need to get under the car and seal them up with some kind of sealer. Whatever is to your preference. Check your local auto parts store.

My car has the same problem, but I havent fixed it yet. I only have a problem with it when I get an underbody wash at the carwash. I dont drive it in the rain too often.

The actual seat being damp is probably a leaky t-top. Have you checked those?

If its not the floor plugs, then it's almost certainly coming from t-tops, if you have them. Mine leak a little by the back seats too, and its been raining and yes, even snowing here lately. Last night we got 2 inches of snow!

What are floor plugs.. Exuse my lack of knowledge.. I drove a 2001 Grand Am GT1.. I know those cars well but I'm learning the 3rd Gens.. Are they easy to get at once I have it on stands? Would new weather stripping help my seats? Or is that just a lack of workmanship or old age?

Thanks!

Also check your hatch, my buddy was freaking out over his leaks and couldn't figure out why the car was leaking and replaced all the seals etc... turned out there was holes right by the hinges of the hatch, and water was running in there making his floor wet. If all else fails, put it in the garage, and grab the garden hose and let a buddy give it a bath while you sit in the car, just a suggestion

Your problem could be different, but my leaks have been traced back to the back area of the t-top bar, there is a gap between it and the roof section behind it. I'm not exactly sure how to fix the problem, but I will be putting new seals and a new t-top bar on soon, and I will put extra sealant in there or something...

A mechanic I used to work with told me to rub petroleum Jelly on all my seal when I had a leak with my roofs and hatch just after I bought my car. It cleared up all the leeks the where not caused a messed up peace of weather striping on my drivers door. The only thing that will fix that is replacing that in my situation. But the Vaseline cleared up my other leaks. It’s might not fix your problem but it’s worth a shoot for the buck it cost me.
