GFX or Not???
I was wondering what everyone thought of the GFX on the 91-92 Firebirds. I was think of pulling mine off and making a Formula/Firehawk look. Is there a real weight difference. Let me know your opinions. Thanks.

I think they look terrible. The 85-90 ground efx package was done much better. You could sell the 91-92 efx and make some money off of them since they are more rare. I like the 91-92 look only without gnd efx.
I think they weigh around 75 lbs altogether including the metal brackets for them.
Bad thing is that it is a little work and time consuming to fill in the holes and stuff like that.

I don't care much for the rain gutters either, when I get a 91-92 Firebird Convertible (I am buying myself one as a graduation present after college), I will be removing them and just have it look like a base bird vert.

I'm deffinately leaning towards taking them off and selling the FX to buy go-fast parts. I think the hard part may be finding a Formula rear bumper cover.

I like the GFX, I have a blue '91 and it looks schweet. GFX are in perfect shape though. I might even go farther and put rubber skirts underneath to better block air from under the car. You can feel em working at speed. Must say though I also like the Formula look, a close call leaning toward GFX. My .02!

I guess you could always do a combo, 89 style GFX, with a 91 nose maybe? I like the 91 nose better than the Formula nose, however it has skirts below it, so you have to have some kind of gfx to use that nose.
The theory behind the 91-92 gfx on the sides is to guide air up the side of the car so it can't get underneath and create lift. Also, the nose has brake cooling scoops under it. Of course the whole setup could be improved with rubber skirts (I think some years had them, attached to the rocker seam underneath), belly pans and a pan under the back bumper to smooth air exit. I guess I'm up to about 4 cents now. I do like Formulas, but they look better lowered a bit IMO. I'm going to wash my Bird today.
