GM or aftermarket fenders and bumpercovers

I was talking to a friend who had an '82 firebird. He replaced one of the fenders with an aftermarket fender. He said he had nothing but problems getting it to line up. I'm going to have my car repainted and the bodyshop said by the time he pays one of his guys to strip and repair the front valance, front bumper cover and rear bumper cover it would be cheaper for me to buy new ones. My driversside fender has 3 little dents that are barely visible. Anybody have experiene with aftermarket body parts? I'm already in for a $6,000 body job, just was wondering if it was worth the couple $'s I would save with aftermarket parts.

if you check out my thread called "check out the progress" in Body and Interior forums, you will see my new fenders on my '89 IROC. i bought them for $40 each from a company called CertiFit, and i have no problems with them. they line up pretty good honestly. for a front valence piece, Ebay usually has one or two for sale

dude u have 3 little dents and he does notwant to fix them. What the hell is he chargeing u 6 grand for? The bumper u can send out have them strip and primed for 75 bucks. If i were u i would look in to take my car some were else. It seems like the body shop wants to do as little work as possable. And wanting to charge twice as much..
