Car: 85' Firebird (Project), 92' RS
Engine: 2.8L, LS1
Transmission: 700R4, 4L60E
Axle/Gears: 3.42 Open , 10 Bolt (ukn)
anything's possible...difference between going from 3rd gen to 4th gen is you're staying with the same dimensions on the body (more or less) so getting things in isn't that big of a deal...going the opposite direction, could be a bigger problem, i know the cars are very different in porportion, don't know how different the interior dimensions are, if you find a second gen bird, try getting some measurements of the dash width, and comparing that to your 3rd gen.
I'd assume, that the biggest problem is finding good parts for a reasonable price. I pulled my entire 4th gen interior (twice) and in one run, it cost me 35 bux for all seats, door panels, dash, and console, with guages and hvac controls included....think i even got a couple of those dash pads from the 4th gens, because second gens have been out of production for longer, and those at the yards have been sitting in the sun for years or have even been at the yards for years, finding the parts will be difficult, atleast if you'd like your car to look like a really nice 2nd gen.
Best of luck.

i personally think it could be pulled off ok, but, you'd have to try to create a "heritage" thirdgen or a retro thirdgen. I could see it working pretty well with early model trans am's especially, shaker hood, barred taillights, firechicken on the hood, or, paint it white with that blue center stripe.....if the car and interior are well done, no-one would complain, infact, many might even like it.

There was a Firebird on the boards a few years ago with a very nicely done shaker hood, it looked pretty good done right. I did a search and found it, but the pics are no longer there.
If he would have did what 85f-bird said, it would have really looked awesome.
