What more detail did you want? It's about as straight forward as you can get. Only thing Jim didn't add was directions to turn the screws.

how else should I answer it? It really IS that easy. I can pad it with a bunch of fluff if you'd prefer.
1. Disconnect your battery
2. Clean and inspect the area around you for loose debris that you may hurt yourself on.
3. Remove t-tops
4. Put t-tops in t-top bag for safe keeping.
5. Etc...
Anything I add above my original description is crap.

To give you at least a little more helpfull info the screws are mostly pretty obvious but there a couple of them buried way under the seals that you won't see unless you are really looking. Those are the ones that will keep you from getting it off.Aside from that just alot of old sealer holding it in.

t-bar
Before I replaced my rusted t-bar in 1992 I had my new one painted (base coat clear coat) and installed new weatherstripping
and used trimthane (which is what they use to put in windshields with) as the silicone for my weatherstripping and my car still has not formed any more rust and will not leak one drop of water. The drawback is the trimthane is like an epoxy tar kinda stuff and it has to wear off of your hands but I have not found its equal.

Wow, this thread was impressive. I am in the middle of doing this (locating a non rusted t-unit for an 84) and all I had to do was look at it for two seconds to figure out a plan of action.

Junior Members (sigh), insulting moderators, look where that gets them. What an idiot!
I took mine off in an hour with keeping the weatherstripping from breaking.

This comment is not mean to offend anyone at all but, we all need to realize that not everyone here has been working with cars for very long and not everyone is mechanically inclined. The rude comment from the original poster could have been a little more like "can you give me some specifics", but at the same time all the rude comments back were uneccessary. We are all here due to a common interest WE ALL LOVE THIRD GENS!!

But you need to remember that those of us that already know how to do something have nothing to gain from helping the new guy except either an ego boost, or remembering that we were the new guy at one time. What motivation we have to help will rapidly disappear when the new guy cops an attitude and all of a sudden begins to expect something. We have no obligation to help, and the newbie needs to remember that.
Those of us that have been here for a long time were all new at first, which means we all learned how to be polite or go without answers. So will this guy. Some just learn faster than others.

Shows what i know. I thought the thing was welded.
Uh, nobody told him to search, they just started off with the attitude. He should have searched, or if he did search, he should have said so.
Another thing I would do if I was replacing my perfectly rust-free t-bar for some reason is maybe put a jack under the car in the middle and just move it up even with the frame, so it can't flex downward too much while the bar is off.

Uh dude... the bar is just a piece of tin over the roof structure. It has absolutely NO load bearing duties. It's just there to hold the t-top seals and nothing else. If you look at it, you'll clearly see that it's screwed to the bar that's part of the unibody chassis.

If someone asked for advise on how to do something simple, either tell them how to do it or dont post at all.
It would make the kid feel better about his mechanical abilities if the kid had a step by step process on how to do it.
