Painting interior panels?
I was wondering if there was a interior paint that was an OEM paint for our cars. Like on the rear plastic panels on my camaro is faded and I wanted to paint them and I think it would be hard to get a non-faded panel for my car at a junkyard that matches color.

the members here who have painted interior plastic for the most part have used some sort of base primer. i don't recall specifics. i do remember one member mentioning that he/she had good luck w/ the krylon outdoor patio type paint or something similar. i do recall for certain that if done improperly the paint will simply flake off. try using a , it should be more help than what i've been.

On thing I've found in painting interior plastic parts is to clean it with rubbing alcohol first then let it dry. Some of the restoration sites show a primer for interior parts. My thinking is the parts are somewhat flexible so you might take that into consideration.Dupli-color makes a line of interior paints too.

I have seen the interior paint but they dont have anything to match the same color as my interior. I dont want to take all of the interior out of my car to paint everything to match and replace my carpet, door panel, etc....

I don't use a primer when I paint my pieces. I sand the plastic for better adhesion, then I clean them with SEM Plastic Prep, which I think is 99% the same as alcohol. After that, I spray a few light coats until the piece is completely covered. I've painted a bunch of stuff this way and so far I've had no problems at all with adhesion.

I would like to see some pics of painted cargo plastics, I have always been told if you scratch them after painting the would look like crap. This is why I am tring to find a good set of black interior plastics.

This seems to be about the best pic I can find online, but in this pic, the plastic part of the kick panel is painted, and the door sill is original GM. You can see that the color match is 100% identical.
I'm currently redoing a set of GTA door panels and I changed the color from red to gray. Once I finish them I'll post pics of the process. I'm using Plastikote 408 "Charcoal" paint, which is a dead match to the GM gray stuff.
These kicks were in my car for a couple years and I'm sure they got kicked more than once, but the paint adhered beautifully and you'd never know they weren't original.

look for carpet / vinyl DYE. Plastic paints can flake off if not prepped right, or even when done right, you can still scratch it off if you're not careful. My right door sill was tan, and I painted it black. The door rubs due to bad door pins, and rubbed it down to tan in spots. I posted a pic a while back in a thread by "creepingdeath", you should be able to find it.

yea, well, just don't pick up some plane jane spray bomb paint, it won't adhere so well.
As long as it's meant for vinyl or plastic, then you should be fine.
