Odometer not working. Is this fixable??
odometer stopped working a couple days ago. finally got a chance to take it apart right now. the problem is the 2 small gears that are turned by the beveled gear thats part of the little electric motor near the base of the assembly. those 2 gears have teeth missing. is it possible to replace just that part or should i just look for a new speedo cluster? also is it safe to drive the car with the whole cluster apart? obviously i wont be able to depend on the gauges but only until i find a new part which should be tonight or tomorrow. thanks.

was able to get another cluster from an 89 bird and just installed it. the gears were fine on that one and everything worked before i pulled it out, so it should be fine. unfortunately now i'll never know for sure what my real mileage is since it had stopped working for at least 2 days.

Regarding the drive motor for these odometers, does anyone know of a compatible motor out of other GM vehicles? I've got a gear kit on order, as I realized it was crumbling apart when I pulled the assembly out of one car to replace the motor in my other car, but I also need to find a motor so I can get that parts chaser car back to being operational.
