Replacing Window Motor - Cloth-backed Duct tape??

I just bought a reconditioned power window motor to have my driver side replaced. The motor came with instructions that include:

"Raise the window to the full "up" position. Support the glass with cloth-backed (duct) tape. ....."

Someone please tell me what exactly that means? How can DUCT tape hold that HEAVY glass from crashing down in the door? HOW would you tape it? Tape it to the car's paint? There are no images on the instructions.

Thanks

Run the tape along the bottom seal, both sides. could try painters tape (wont get the sticky stuff on there, but doesnt hold as strong)

Good luck, ive gotta do mine too

New one on me... My window stayed up, as it was held up by the rotary spring dealy, while I changed out the motor, so I haven't experienced these falling windows like everyone complains about...

Somehow I just find it hard to imaigne that just TAPE can hold up the glass (How much does 1 door glass weigh anyways??)

Not much. I would guess maybe 10 pounds. The glass is pretty thin. Downsizing and reduced weight/cost was the name of the game when the 3rd-gens were designed.

I replaced motors in mine, windows all the way up, they never came crashing down. I had hear of this, so I put a piece of wood for the window to rest on, but it did not fall down, they tension spring in the regulator is pushing the glass up.

Just use a piece of wood or something to hold the glass up.
