1990 SIR (air bag) diagnosis?

I recently finished the restoration to NEW condition of our 1990 IROC-Z 5.0 TPI 5 speed car. But an unexpected problem has arisen, I can not figure out what is wrong with the air bag system. The SIR (supplemental inflatable restraint) light comes on occasionally. I would like some advice on fining out what is wrong with it, it does complete the 7-9 flashes on startup.
