rear window defog removal...

Can this be done?

I would buy a new hatch, but that is $150 or more.
Can I take off the defogger lines?
Can I tint over that after removal without it affecting the tint?

Just curious. I figured it is just paint, right?

I might be wrong, but it is not paint. My understanding is that the defogger is actually thin strips of copper. I ended up getting a new hatch for 50 dollars from a junk yard, was the easiest way, and cheapest way to get it tinted. Most places here will either charge you more, or wont waranty defoger windowed tint.

mine is tinted now, but it is starting to come off.
I was gonna pull off the tint, then try to remove the defogger lines and have it retinted with no lines...

I figured there was metal in the lines to conduct heat. Just in a paint form...

Thanx

Hey guys... I have a rear defogger on my 99 Camry (my when-It-Rains car.)

Got the back windows blacked out and didn't charge me extra for it at all..

I don't think the rear defogger will affect tinting at all. if you have those weird gray stripes at the top of your hatch window like I do, just ask 'em to remove 'em or you can do it yourself with a razor blade.

And, speaking of which, is those funky stripes at the top of the hatch are rear defoggers, than A. They don't work. (at all) and B. There's no control for them in my console. at all.
