Door thud?

I was pretty impressed with my new GTA at how little it rattled when I got it, but there is one big one that I cant seem to figure out what it is.

It only happens when I hit a fairly decent size bump. It makes a solid thud from what sounds like the door latch/striker bolt area. The hinges are good and the door stays latched good. The rear suspension is nice and solid, the trans crossmember has a new poly mount. So Im fairly sure it isnt coming from under the car.

Have any of you had this problem on your car? If so what was worn out/broken and what did you do to fix it? Thanks for the help.

Well does anybody know what exactly loosens up within the door latch that would hold the striker bolt tight?
Is there a bushing or wear part that can be replaced?
Or do I have to replace the whole door lock assembly?
I would like to know what parts I may need before I tear it apart because it needs to sit outside (under a cover of course ) and the doors need to be shut tight. So if I have the parts before hand I can always take something back and not have the door hanging open. Any help anybody can give would be appreciated.

It's likely your door pin/bushings. I had this problem with my car. I couldn't figure out where the thud was coming from because the hinges seemed tight when the door was opened. I figured it out by shutting the door with the window open and tried lifting the door. There was enough play that the door would "bounce" over big bumps and give a thud sound. Note: I wouldn't do it when the window was up though. The window put enough pressure on the door to keep it from bouncing. HTH

I'll have to try that out, I didnt think the window would put enough pressure on it so you couldnt feel it, but apparently it can. Thanks for the replies.

Oh and I have no t-tops, and yes it does have power windows. But I've heard a loose window mechanism before and it doesnt have the sharp chatter sound of a loose window or track.

Has anybody ever had a problem with the hatch pull down motor not holding the hatch tight enough and getting a thud over bumps?
