Do you have an alarm? A simple flashing red LED on the dash or a siren could have stopped your car from getting busted up. I don't see why everyone doesn't get one.

I got one of those K9 Alarm systems for my fourth gen... if someone gets within a one foot radius and stands there for too long, it yells at them It's fun to watch it happen in parking lots.

I'm going to be using tamper proof screws for my amp/sub, but my deck, and car in general need something, and alarms generally just go off at the wrong time, and are annoying.

I was thinking something like a switch to disable the ignition or something, and hide it somewhere...

Just pull the ECM fuse out. Car will never start. Or you could put a switch in line with the power feed to that fuse.

Im gonna put him in a tool box and leave it in the front seat. Water moccasins tend to get pretty damn pissed in captivity and will strike at anything. Only problem is that the weather is starting to cool off around here and if someone gets him im might not be able to find another.

Actually, it came with the car from the original owner...i should have watched my wording there. I've been looking at remote keyless entry systems and along the way have seen some viper alarms in the $150.00 area.

Sorry, I forgot the definition of the word "could" has changed.

Obviously a simple LED won't scare away someone from alot of expensive stuff. I don't get how people spend $1000+ on a stereo but don't install a cheap $50 shock sensor and alarm system. The noise will scare away alot of less desperate people.

I actually have a kill switch hidden right behind the console mounted on the tranny tunnel. I have had several people try to find it but they never think to look behind there. I personally can't see it neither you just have to reach under there and find it.

What's some stuff you can do? I want to put a bar underneath the column so someone can't just drop it, I'm getting an alarm next week, but should I install a switch that controls power to the ignition or fuel pump? That way I'm backed up 3 different ways!!

First of all I Don't want to be critical of other Third Geners who are trying to help out other members. But there is a problem with removing your ECM Fuse. Each time you remove it you have to drive the car for awhile so the computer can reprogram itself. This is not a big deal but the car won't run as good as it could, or get the milage it should until it is driven and the computer relearns its settings. I have been taking my coil wire off instead. It makes it harder for a theif to steal the car if first they have to bring their own coil wire and second open the hood and put it on. This all takes time and makes noise opening the hood ECT... And Again I don't want to offend anyother Third Geners but removing the ECM fuse can take the car 30 or 40 miles to reset itself. And alot of us don't drive our cars that many miles between trips.

I use the easy route, I just take my ignition coil out if its going to sit somewhere overnight, at a car show ect. That or I just take the fuel pump relay with me

It's just color coded wires. You have a better chance of doing it right than most install shops would.

I pull the 3 screws off the top off my TPI cover that goes over my distributor. And just remove the wire from the cap going to the coil. It is kinda a pain to do but my car sets for 2 to 3 weeks at a time and it probably takes me 5 minutes to do. I have a friend who has a similar theft prevention measurement. He doesn't want to take the time pull the coil wire off the Distributor because off the cover over it. He just unplugs the wire at the coil end and then drops it between the firewall and back of the motor. He then plugs another wire on the coil and drops it behind the motor. When you open the hood it appears to have the coil wire still hooked up even though it isn't. By doing it his way it only takes him about a minute and he doesn't need any tools to do it.

Best Regards: cabsales1

You could even do something like run the injector fuses up underneath the console lid, cut a little square in the console storage well and mount the fuses right there. If a thief tries to hotwire the car with the fuses pulled, it'll crank forever and everything will look right, but no fuel will get to the cylinders.

To steal (& tweak out) someone else's idea on here of using a Hall-effect switch...you could rig a pair of relays on the injector fuse lines and make it so you have to put a magnet in the right spot for the car to start. Totally stealth...

My fuel pump relay on my 1989 Iroc-Z (TPI) is next to the Brake Master Cylinder. There are a couple of relays there on the firewall 2 of them have the same part # One is the MAF Burn off Relay and the other One is the Fuel pump Relay. There is also a fuel pump fuse hidden up by the battery in a little holder and of course a fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. You could pull any of the other 2 fuses and it would be similar to pulling the fuel pump relay. By the way very few people are aware that the fuel pump also has a fuse by the battery which would throw a theif off a little. Actually I've found threw the years that anything that constitutes WORK usually deters a Theif. Most Thiefs are LAZY which is why they Steal and don't get a Real Job. By doing any small thing to keep the car from starting usually keeps most Theifs from taking it. This explains the VATS System anybody that knows much about cars can disable the VATS it only takes about 2 minutes with a diode and a couple of scotch blocks to put it in the wiring harness fast. And as for taking the Fuel pump Relay that is an easy one to, right next to it on the firewall is the MAF burn off relay which is the exact same relay. You can unplug it and plug the fuel pump wires on it and start the car as you don't need the MAF relay for the car to run. You don't even have to unbolt it, the wires will reach from one relay to the other. I actually have reversed them before to check my fuel pump relay and didn't even need to grab a wrench did it in the parking lot with my hands. And if you take both relays you can take the cooling fan relay up by the cars battery and use it for the fuel pump as it also is the same part as the other 2 relays, only thing is you would only be able to cruise the car on the highway or it would overheat in traffic without it. ANYWAY enough on the

"WHAT IFS" My point is that any little thing will ussually stop a THIEF because they are LAZY and won't take the time to fix something to steal it. They will move on to the next car that runs first. I have never had my car stolen though and feel bad for those of you who have as it would ruin my day (WEEK). I just wish that this same line of thinking worked on my car stereo, I've had several of these stolen threw the years. Is what really P##ses me off is that they can't just take the stereo which is bad Enough to deal with. They always have to bust everything up stealing it. I have a friend who took construction adhesive and put it on his radio under the dash and when it was wet he stuck Razor blades in it so who ever tried to steal his radio by just reaching under the dash and jerking it would get cut up. Great Idea 20 years ago when he did it but nowadays the little punks would SUE you and end up getting your car as a settlement. From my veiw point I disable my car best as I can, and have a good car alarm and keep my auto insurance paid and hope for the Best!!! I also refuse to purchase anything I believe that might be stolen, "NO MATTER HOW GOOD OF A DEAL IT IS" Come on if we are buying stolen stuff we aren't any better than the guy who stole it. We are encouraching the thiefs to continue stealing!!!! Also Think about it. My neighbor a couple of years ago bought a stolen car radio from a punk!!! Then paid him and his Thiefing Buddies to install it for him. A couple of weeks later his windows on his car got broken and it got Stole!!!! Wonder who stole it from him????? The next day he wanted me to go with him and try to find the Punks that did it. MY Response was he deserved it.

Sorry I'm carrying on so long but I get tired of the Punks!!!!

thieves

It okay, cab... I understand the feeling of violation but whats worst is getting robbed in person: back in Jan 01 I was walking home from bus stop (yes I'm stuck on public transportation right now) about a little after 7pm & got ambushed by four young "adults" -had a gun pointed to the front of my head & one pressed from behind (never saw the one from behind) & they each proceded to strip me of my leather coat (a cheap $70 job I got from JC Penny outlet) wallet complete w/credt crds, soc, sucurty card, etc & a blank $100 money order I was going to use to pay a bill-oh I failed 2 mention I was just laid off a mere three days prior so that was basically my last $100), backpack! Anyway I just knew as I felt two guns pressed up against my head front & back that I was dead for sure but because I cooperated (I was actually in shock because I'd lived there 5+ years & had walked up that very path several times -even @ 3am! & never had a problem). Sorry now I'm rambling. Anyway point is that as bad as loosing a car or having one broken into or having your apartment robbed (all which I've experienced over the past 13 years), I'd much prefer that to being robbed on my person. But by the grace of *** I'm still here to tell the tale. Thank *** 4 everyday U wake up because U never know when it may be Ur last.
