4th gen console Q's
alright i know there are tons of info about this on this site but i searched and havent found exactly what i need to know. i am going to be putting in a 4th gen console and seats and seat belts and all and i am keeping the 3rd gen dash i would really like to do the dash swap but it looks to be too extensive. So i am going to use the firebird radio pod. i need to know how this bolts up? does it bolt directly to the dash or what? also with a manual console i will not have to mody the shifter correct? some said you did and some said you dont. i want to use the new 4th gen auto shifter though will that be a problem? that is about all the questions i have so thanks in advance for your help.
ps: please dont anybody reply with telling me to search... i have searched and this information listed above is not clear to me i have read tons of posts and i still am not sure on those things.

i feel your same pain man. i have done the searching too, so i decided to build my own center console, eventually. I will for now do what your doing but I will just wing it. I found a bird radio pod i am too hoping it bolts up direct in the same spot. We will see. if you find out anything let me know too.

Personally myself, I have done the swap of a 1998 Z28 console into a 87 Iroc-Z, and it really was more trouble than it was worth, you could tell it really did not belong there. the swap looks great in 85-92 Firebird's because of the way the 4th gen console fits under the stock radio pod. I bolted the firebird radio pod to the 4th gen console, then over the top of the radio pod, I cut out a piece of plastic to fit in it ( from the original broken center console ) and cut and glued a piece of the carpet to fit ( again from the original console ) it was OK but I wouldn't do it again.
just my .02 take it for what it's worth.
These are all the pix I could find, I thought I had one with everything done but I guess not. that is a Lumina Z34 steering wheel. I also relocated the hatch release button to the dash where the cigarrette lighter socket was ( since the 4th gen console had 2 ), and put the power window switches in the ash tray.

is this swap really a big deal i heard that the manual console was basically a bolt in thing. i know the firebird pod is going to be a little different but i thought it wouldnt be tough.
Dave84Bird i would really appreciate some finished pics if you dont mind i am still considering this but dont know for sure if i want to do it or not.

Sorry, I don'r have pix of the finished project, or even access to the car anymore. The guy I was building it for turned into a real piece of work and a rapist, so I gave him his car back in pieces
