OER Weatherstrip
Just installed OER door weatherstripping today.
Could not afford Gm at $135 each, so I went with OER at $70 for both doors.
Not real impressed with the fit or quality.
The real problem is the molded ends.
The drivers side is like it is formed too big.
The passengerside is too small plus the mounting holes on the ends do not hardly line up.
Had to actually drill another hole on the passenger door.
Wish I could have afforded GM pieces.
My friend got a set of OER t-top weatherstrip kit last fall.
Had one side split into while installing!
Guess you get what you pay for.

YEP just installed new t-top seal kit and they are not doing good at all. Small tears and yes fitment troubles. Should have went GM too.

My Soffseal t-top gaskets fit flawlessly. My soffseal door gaskets fit flawlessly except for a little extra material at the front of the door where you can't see it. My soffseal hatch weatherstrip fits flawlessly.
Overall I'm very happy with the t-top and hatch weatherstrip. I'm 95% happy with the door weatherstrip, but I think I would have been happier with the OEM door weatherstrip.
Perhaps I'll try the Metra door weatherstrips in the future.

A follow up:
The OER weather strips are being sent back for a refund.
I got a surprise while washing.
They wear completely split into.
Still can't swing the GM ones.
I guess I will try Softseal brand at $90pr.

I got a full set of Softseal off e-bay, quite impressed atm, ok they are not GM [those cost more than my car].
The only thing i need to do is drop the side window adjustment a bit , the seals are so good i have to slam the door hard!!

I bought the OER. Same results. Salesman at Classic Industries said that they were made by the same manufacturer as the GM. HA!!!! Not only did they not fit, but when I tried to remove them to MAKE them fit they tore apart. TOTAL CRAP!!!! Bite the bullet and get the GM. Pull out the credit card and go deeper into debt like the rest of us.

Did a search here last night on Soff Seal.
Seems a couple of people are describing the same fitment issues that I have had with the OER stuff.
I've decided to bite the bullet and go with GM.
All I needed to read was just one complaint to change my mind.
Guess I'll have to put off some other parts I was going to buy for a while.

I have used softseal on my doors about 2 years ago. They worked but left a lot to be desired. The ends were too big and felt like cheap sponges. Also the GM parts have a "backbone" plastic inbeded in the ends and the strips have very large barb "T"s that go into the strips. Softseal has no "bone" and almost no "T". The barbs practically fall out of the strips if u r not carefull.
To thier defense i have herd that they have changed. But I still don't trust them one bit.
I think the cheapest or at least BEST set up would be:
-hood cowl (if you still have a stockish hood)-Softseal
-Hatch - Softseal
-Triangle from window-Ebay used
-Doors (don't look at the price, just order)- GM
-Windows (also look away)- GM
expensive but will def work and last. Leave all the idiot proof pieces to softseal, but when it comes to the precise important stuff leave it up to the general, haha.

I also went with Metro. I have seen the Soffseal tho and was able to compare the two.
The Metro ends were not formed as nice as I had hoped, but they were solid rubber. The flaps that get screwed to the car did not have the backbone which was the thing I missed the most. But, the length of the rubber seal was durable and shiney although it was hollow. Thats why I went with Metro. Install was OK vice screwing the ends down I used some small washers to be safe. At first doors a little hard to close but after a couple weeks its better and the doors sound more solid now.
The Soffseal was opposite in construction. The molded ends were hollow and the length of seal was solid, but it looked cheap and felt kindof flimsy. Looked like it could tear easily, more sponge feel than rubber. Only good thing it did have a backbone built in, but not as complete as GM.

I use this product "armor-all" to make mine last as long as humanly possible. its quite impressive stuff. Really makes the rubber look and feel like new. the GM weatherstripping cost more than my car, too !! come on, now , why does it have to be THAT expensive ??? GRRR

My weatherstripping is TOTALLY gone in my car. T-tops, doors, back glass, hood, all need replaced. Looks like I will go with a mix of GM and softseal. More bucks to shell out!

damn , I just deleted the reply I got from gmpartsdirect because I was so disgusted It said something like $135 for the lower, inner door strip. And remember, these guys are supposed to be the cheapest GM parts resource !
I believe a T-top set was something like $449 or something of that order.... argh !

Re: OER Weatherstrip
I am going with the Metro weatherstrips when I do mine.
You can get their kits pretty reasonable on amazon
Hardtop part # 1900-105 $135
T top kit part #2001-118 $249
These include the doors the hatch and t tops
They were at the Syracuse nationals, I stopped in and they had some display pieces, I was impressed with the quality of the rubber, looked nice and very soft and pliable

Re: OER Weatherstrip
I meant OER not OEM lol. I sent some pictures to Classic Industries of how these T Top seals fit. They said they would refund my money if I sent them back. I'll be happy with that. Turns out my local Dealer can't get the GM seals anymore. If Classic refunds my money for the OER seals I'll buy the GM ones from them. If not, I guess I'll find another supplier So far though Classic Industries has been very helpful with this issue.

I don't know if they are exactly the same but they are nice and soft. I couldn't get the doors to shut with OER crap on a couple of 2nd gens and 3rd gens and the soffseals fixed it. They close easily like stock.

My OER door seals fit great & they are almost 10 yrs old! I will say, when first installed it was pretty hard to fully shut the door.As the ends were very rigid/bulky, but after a few months they "formed" very well to the door jamb.

The 1st to 2nd design change came along in mid to late 1989.
I have NOS sets of both designs.

Re: OER Weatherstrip
Yes... You are correct. They used the second design for one year around 1988. However, we show that GM then superseded back to the original design the following year.

Re: OER Weatherstrip
I have original 89 cars here with the early cars having the 1st design and later ones with the 2nd design.
All ten original ttop seal, 90 thru 92 cars I have here also use the 2nd design with the extra water channel.
The instruction sheets I have from GM show the difference in the designs as the hard plastic outer ttop part and the extra lower water channels built into the Ttop seal that's on the car body.
There was also something in the press release about the 2nd design that said it was silicon impregnated to help them stay softer and seal better.
If I can find time I'll scan them.
