Jumping the Gun on the Turn Signal

Well, I may have blew it. I will leave that up to y'all.
I got a great looking turn signal/cruise control/ wiper lever off of ebay to replace my faded-wornout one. It looks just like mine accept for the connection wire. The new one has about 5 " of wire with a connection on the end. The one from the TA has about 14".
Where did I go wrong?

The one you got is from a 4th gen probably. They have a connector at the top of the steering column. The thirdgen ones run all the way down. I would just slice it together before the wire goes into the steering column. You don't want to do it inside the column because you will never get it threaded through with the extra width from the tap.

Yep....been there done that with the GTA.

Not quite correct - my 91 'Bird has the short cable as well. I've got a tilt wheel, don't know if that makes any difference. I've seen the ones with the longer cables, I suspect GM went with the shorter connection setup in the later years. SOrry I can't be more specific.....

my '92 has a smaller connector wire...mine was faded and the ugly yellow lettering

i grabed a lever off a '98 camaro and it was identicle, only differece is they didnt write the stuff for cruise control? yet it still have the button for it?

Anyway it still looks a lot better and it hooked right up.

So im pretty sure 91-92 birds and camaros have the newer style.

As well as my steering wheel is a leather wraped one which is also available in the newer camaros.

Most likely it's when they went to the airbag wheels.. So a 90-92 probably has the short cable.

Well, I have gathered up the tools and material to attemp a splice. New soldering iron, 2 awg heat shrink, & 1/8" heat shrink for a jacket over all 4 wire's, cause of my concerns about the solder holding while I try and feed the connecting wire. I have'nt had much experience with this type of welding, however, I have been a pipe weldor for L.U. #72 in Atlanta for the past 20 years.
The process I use most of the time can't be broke with a 12 lb. sledgehammer. But if y'all say solder will hold it, I have no reason to doubt it.
I'll update on Friday.
