Broken Door - Shaved Handles
I shaved the handles on my 86 Camaro and installed the VPA kit off of Summit. We used stronger linkage than supplied, hid all the units under the console, and installed buttons on the console so I can use those and the remote. It was working before but now when I hit the button on the remote/console it doesnt do anything. The solonoid doesnt go off and I cant even open the door manually. The door is being shown as unlocked from the inside but it wont budge at all, no way to open it. Also I blew a fuse a while ago after I started having this problem so now my headunit wont turn on, interior lights wont come on, etc. I programmed the remote so when both buttons are pushed at the same times that the lights come on but this function isnt working either which could be because of the blown fuse but Idk Any ideas?

your door should open from the inside no matter what unless you break something. If you shaved your door handles, you should have removed the locks too and all the lock stuff also.
Replace the fuses and see what happens. You still should be able to open the door without power. Looks like your probably going to have to take apart the door panel and fix something mechanical in your door.

hmm how odd....I have the vpa kit too and guess what happened (if any of you remember my post awhile back).....unfortunatly our situation differs a little bit, as my remote still actuates the solenoid.....but I still cannot get the doors to open.

what did you guys do? All you need to do is put an actuator/solenoid to pull down the latch so the door will open. Remove all door lock stuff. I dont know what this kit is by Summit but either it sucks or its directions suck. I have no idea how you could make it so your door wont open. Dont even see how its possible.

Its already been installed and worked good for me except for the fact that you couldnt hit the buttons multiple times in a row, you would have to wait a couple seconds. We used a plastic wedge to make it level and mounted the solonoid vertically. Instead of using the the linkage supplies we made are own out of some heavier stuff, I think we dog legged one end and looped the other, fit perfect I think. Hid everything under the console and installed two doorbell switches on the console. The remote has two buttons and I wired one for each door, both at the same time triggers the running lights. The internal locks are still there but everything from the outside is shaved.
So they worked but one day the car was outside a building and the passenger door simply would open and since then its been doing this on and off for a while. Now its down for good, I toggle the interior locks and there still connected, Its all manual. When I hit the buttons for the poppers nothing happens, I dont hear the solonoid pop but sometimes hear a little sound coming from the module itself. Anyone want picks of anything, I got a few hundred.

well if you dont want to take off your fender to get the door off, then you're only choice is to cut a hole in the inside door panel. I would for sure give summit racing a phone call about how crappy the product is.

Heck I wouldnt need to do that, Im just going to take it to the shop and do a little break in. Among various tools we have a break in kit which includes a slim jim to I think theres a way to do it.
